I know it's been asked before but hear me out before you start flaming. I have a 17 trdor 4x4 dcsb with tow on order for about 35k. After reading about these issues it does make me hesitate in spending this amount of money on a early gen. I began looking at gen 2s and found a gen 2 pro with about 12k miles on the odometer. The stealership, however, wants 35k for it and it'll be out of warranty fairly soon and is not certified. I've weighed pros and cons and am at a 50/50 split. Please help me with my indecision or flAme away

Go for the new 17 trd OR. If you get the Pro you're gettin an outdated gen going back to 05 plus you'll save on fuel.

Which one do you think looks better and you will be happy driving everyday.
Keep in mind the issues you see here, most have known fixes.
Also think about how hard that 12k miles on the Pro could be. Crawl under it and see what kind of story it tells.

I have no problem telling someone I will never know or care about how to spend their money. Go 3rd gen, it's heads and tails better then 2nd gens.

BTW, I traded my '14 for a '16 last March and do not have any regrets so I'm not just blowing smoke.

I'd go new, but mainly because I think the "Pro Badge Tax" is ridiculous. I'd also rather have new than pay 35k and wonder what the hell someone did to that truck for 12k miles that made them want to trade it in.

If you are spending 35k on a Tacoma, buy new....

I moved up from a 2011 TRD Off Road I bought new in late 2010 to a 2017 TRD Off-Road just 3 weeks ago - Really like it. It is quieter/smother on the road and the tech is really nice. Gen 2 pro is gonna be loud with that TRD exhaust and gonna beat you up on the road. Gen 2 Pro is sweet but for the same money, i think the new vehicle is gonna hold more value in 3 years.

I bought a 2016 TRD OffRoad ....ordered it and drove it home in April. Added some bling since then.
Truck drives amazing.....is actually quieter on the inside than my 2012 Honda Accord Crosstour.
I added a aFe cold air intake.....regardless of that it hauls ass. 6,000 miles....love this truck!

I love my gen 3, but miss my gen 2 4.0l, also no trd supercharger for gen 3 to make up for the lack of low end power...

I would say if power isn't an issue and you want better mpg go with a 3rd gen. If you want a better power train go with a 2nd gen.
