Sorry, I haven't been on this site in a while. Does anyone know where to get parts to convert the rear axle brakes of a '14 Tacoma to discs?

I've searched online but apparently there are no commercially made kits for this conversion.

Why would you? Is current braking inadequate?

Edit: for the record I was asking a genuine question, not trying to be a jerk or anything.

Imo that would be a waste of money, since the front brakes do probably 70 percent of your stopping. Why your rear shoes last forever. You’d be spending money and not really getting a major benefit. Maybe do a good front break upgrade, slotted rotors , ceramic pads maybe. Just food for thought

I was wanting to check it out since we're looking at pulling a travel trailer that is going to be near the max towing capacity. Discs would help eliminate the drum brake fade in a situation where one would be braking while going down a grade.

I think most of us here would highly recommend against pulling a trailer that weighs in at your max capacity. You would have trailer brakes I'm sure but braking is a small part of that entire equation. How long of a trailer are you looking at? What is the tongue weight?

I look extensively at towing information with the tacoma all over, considering living full time in a TT. Moving it only on rare occasions and I still wouldn't want to load to the 6500 lbs

Its a worthy investment over stock drums. @Torspd upgraded and the benefits were realized. I also have a rear disk brake kit waiting to be installed as well.

I'd do the rear swap on any Tacoma that I purchased. Plan to upgrade my rears to twin piston even. Worth every cent and more.

There is also a master cylinder upgrade. Make sure to get that as well.

Those that have the best opinions on the subject, are those that have actually installed a set and have the experience of both style of brakes.

Does it use IS350 Rotors and Pads?
Or is it X-Runner Rotors and Pad?

Just asking for later, if one needs to replace parts.

    Research research research first
I went this route after having my passenger rear drum fail in a very epic way that cost me a lot of money. At the time of repair it was a reasonable amount more to go with the conversion kit from sos. So I did. The guys at sos were very quick and customer service was great especially since a hurricane just hit their area. I paid extra to have the kit with the emergency break. Just know if you go this route your ebreak will be significantly weaker. It’s stated on the website but I guess I missed that message during my research.
Good luck with your research and the choice you make OP.

Other than the E-Brake. How do you like the setup?
How is pad life and what replacement pads and rotors are you using?

For the people who have done the upgrade, is there any actual advantage to rear discs other than for towing? My truck has 110k miles on the original drums and rather than mess with replacing them, I’m tempted to do rear wheel bearings, axle seals and the rear disc conversion (with master cylinder upgrade) all at once. I’ve already done the 5th gen T4R front brake upgrade and would love to upgrade the rear. But I could just as easily stick with drums, I’m just curious about the overall benefit, outside of never having to look at ugly rusted drums behind the wheels again.

How do you like it with the Electronic booster in the Pro/OffRoad? I have a rear setup sitting in my garage but since I can not upgrade the booster I have been hesitant to swap it out.

most people say there is not that big of a benefit. next step is a BBK if you want more stopping power. I am still debating the rear setup. At least with the sport you can upgrade the master.

I did the rear conversation and the sequoia master cylinder later. Both stages made noticeable differences. Stopping power became an issue after going to 35s.
Additionally, Tom is a really great guy to deal with. Customer service beyond what I’m used to.
Flushed my system both times with a pneumatic bleeder.
