anyone here have a high mileage 3rd gen and had to replace the fuel filter? Apparently it’s in the tank and a bit of a pain in the ass. I’m at 135k wondering if I should do it or not.

I couldn’t find a thread on this topic but I’m not a great looker.

    thanks!

IMO if there are no signs of it being clogged leave it.

Small lift, slightly oversized tires, well...
You heard right, it's in the tank. It's a sock style filter around the fuel pump. I'm not sure you can replace it, even if you wanted to...and who wants to drop their fuel tank just to check?

Meh, just wait until the fuel pump fails and then do it

Fuel filters don't really get clogged enough to inhibit flow. People seem to think there's all this dirt floating around in gas station fuel tanks but honestly that's not really a thing. I work at a gas station, we change the filters below each dispenser twice a year and they never really have anything in them. We're talking a fairly high-volume station with hundreds of thousands of gallons of fuel getting pumped through the dispensers.
The diesel filters get some varnish build-up but that's it.

I've been a full time tech for 20 years and never seen a filter cause a driveability problem. I wouldn't really worry about it
