[QUOTE="DesertTaco4x4, post: 12810067, member: 181439" I don't think they will stop their big incentives b/c right now it is working. The trade in values do take a huge hit though b/c of that. The smart buyer will stay with the GM until it is paid off.[/QUOTE]
I went on GM Website and the 2 incentives they had were a $269 low mileage lease and the other was $500 cash back. Neither of those seems to be really huge incentives to me.

Good deal bro, I was just curious so I looked it up. Looks like I also missed the 3rd incentive on the Colorado which was 2.9% Financing for 60 months.

Who cares if GM offers discounts and Toyota doesn't? It's still an even playing field. Toyota rested on their laurels expecting gravy truck sales. They didn't bring much else to the table and GM is closing in on them. You can still like Toyota and acknowledge this. Fanboy-ism is something I do not understand. If I am a LeBron James fan and he has a shitty game, I just say he has a shitty game. Don't have to always defend the honor.

When I was looking for a new truck the Colorado or Canyon was winning for me on paper. After I drove the Tacoma, Colorado and Canyon, the Tacoma was hands down what felt better to me. So I bought it. My last Toyota product was 15 years ago a 1986 4runner. I liked having the choice between the different trucks and you just got to go with whatever feels good.

Yup, the new Colorado is a great looking truck but I'd still have a hard time driving a Chevy through rough terrain into the middle of nowhere. I'd buy the 3rd gen over that in a heartbeat

I agree, GM quality has improved from the 1990's but I'd still bank on a Toyota, even if it meant less power from the engine. That being said I think it can be naive at times to think Toyota will innately maintain their high quality control standards they had on their gen 1 and gen 2 Tacomas. Auto companies, like the everyone else here, look for ways to cut costs and cut corners to improve their bottom line. It's not unreasonable to assume a car company who dominates a segment will relax on quality control while riding the reputation of previous year's work, hoping it will continue to bring them more profits. QAQC can be expensive.
Not sure if anyone follows Eric The Car Guy (ETCG1 on YouTube, a great automotive channel IMO), but as an Acura/Honda technician throughout the 90's and early 2000's, he mentions that he noticed Acura's and Honda's quality slip in the early 2000's from the 1990's. Mainly based off the fact that in the 90's, warranty work was exceeding rare compared to the GM lot across the street, but in his later years, he had to do a lot more warranty work from late 90's early 2000's Honda/Acura models.
My point? Just because we are in a later year than previous generations, it isn't always safe to assume the next generation is an evolution in the right direction. Sometimes auto companies take a step back before than can move forward again.
I think the gen 3 rollout has had some inexcusable issues, but Tacoma owners in general seem to be more passionate about their cars than domestic mid-size pickup owners (speaking GENERALLY of course). This probably equates to more drivers per capita actually participating on an online forum compared to other brands and being loud about their issues. Tacoma has an almost cult-like following of loyal drivers, so I do take the posts here with a grain of salt, even though I do consider myself loyal to Toyota.

Availability was an issue for me and I bought in May. One dealer had SR/SR5s. One had two sports. There were hardly any ORs anywhere. I got lucky and the dealer I bought from had my baby on the train. Had to wait a week but got every option I wanted except JBL.

Test drove a 2017 Ridgeline RTL-T today. Very nice vehicle. Yes, it is a truck, not a Pilot with a bed. It has a stronger unibody and suspension than the Pilot. I measured the ground clearance of the front air dam, 8 inches at the low points in front of the tires, 11 inches in the middle section.

7-pin Class IV hitch, trans cooler, AWD versions have 5000lb tow capacity. RTL-T is one step down from top-of-the-line, so you cannot get the 400W inverter, power slider, bed stereo. Those are for the $40k topoftheline editions.

Nicely featured, power driver/pass seat, trizone climate control. Rear seats folded down underneath them I could fit six huge tackleboxes, folded up the rear floor is flat (there is a bracket the seatlegs fit into though). Has a wideview camera on the passenger side mirror to view what's happening on your blind side, comes on with the right turn signal, or always on with a stalk button. Has a VSC Off button that defeats the engine cutout everybody hates.

Smooth, quiet, comfortable inside. The trunk bed is huge, has a rubber seal on top to keep dirt out. Swingout tailgate is a bonus, 64" bed, 4x8 sheets fit flat in the bed.

Probably a better work and utility vehicle than a Tacoma because you can slide 4x8 sheets right into it, forklift a 4x8 pallet right into it. Should be a good triple duty vehicle, work/family/recreation. Dimensions are 210 inches long, 79 inches wide.

Offroad I think it is fine for medium duty, the only real pain IMO will be no 4LO descending, you'll have to ride the brakes going downhill on the nastier roads. It can be locked into first gear, but it's nice to have the lowspeed transfer case on descents. AWD for medium duty ascents should work fine.

Missing My Last Tacoma --- Had 11 Toyota trucks in the past and many other Toyota cars too.
...^^^... I had a 2012 Ridgeline and liked it a lot .... trunk bed & tailgate were great ... great for a family ... too big for my needs now ... so I went back to a Tacoma.

With a Tacoma ... you can have a rock climber ... but not 4WD at interstate highway speeds in rain & snow.

With a Ridgeline ... you can have 4WD (really AWD with a locker) at very high interstate speeds in rain and snow ... but not a rock climber or extreme off road.

Two different vehicles for 2 different reasons ... and the Ridgeline's quality is as good or maybe better that Tacoma.

One thing you can bet your horse on is that the Japanese will make the 2017 better than the 2016. that's why we love toyota

Me personally, I am out of the oil drillers. Made some good money, but I stayed too long. Still got a pipeline MLP, Facebook, Oracle, GE and a lot of mutual funds. Right now I am just enjoying the ride as the market makes new highs. Talk about "irrational exuberance".

August sales. Still selling less than a year ago when looking at August 2015 and 2016.

overall sales for the year are up 4% from last year. Sure a couple of months are slightly lower than the same month last year, but you have ignored the 5 or 6 months that sales were greater than 2015.
Give a rest, you're too stupid to be an effective troll.

My experience exactly. I drove a Chevy 1500 Z71 for a decade, am a staunch Chevy fan, and initially intended to buy a Colorado. But, the better ride feel, higher value holding, and greater availability of aftermarket parts made the decision for me hands down. The Colorado is a great truck, but I'd make the decision on a taco again if I had the chance.
    Edit: 3rd gen specific.

Haha. Keep saying I am poor if that makes you feel better yourself. I could go pick up a new turd gen today if I wanted. Grow some thicker skin. Toyota dropped the ball on a ton of aspects of the gen 3. Sorry I am insulting your truck and manifesting your insecurities.

Ridgeline sales up 85,825% over last year. 11 year old Frontier 161.1%, Tacoma up 4%. No sure what to say. :D

It won't matter when the Ranger comes out. Within one year of release it will own the small truck market. You heard it hear first. It has nothing to do with being a fanboy one way or another. It's just what Ford does, they owned the crown before they let the last Ranger wither on the vine and I heavily expect them to come out with a truck that is ahead of GM and cheaper than Toyota but just as reliable... much like what they do with the F150.

We'll see. Ford will probably make the specs of the Ranger underwhelming as to not bite into the more-profitable F-series sales. GM already does this. Why you don't see the 4.3 V6 in the Colorado/Canyon.
