Bingo, that would also play into the 2015 sales.

Maybe because people are realizing it's a sleeper in reliability and can be had at a great value. Plus it has a stronger motor and low end toque.

Agree on the great value. Don't know much about reliability of the Frontier. I imagine pretty reliable, given its a Japanese truck?

It's made in the states. 2010+ models have little to no issues. It's build quality is 90% the Nissan Navara which is Nissan's global truck. It's not watered down for comfort like the Tacoma.

The slump in sales is likely due to people with first model year jitters waiting for the 17's as if something is actually going to significantly change between the last of the 16s and first crop of 17s.

Makese sense. Just looked at the Nissan Frontier website for the first time in my life. Seems like all of the versions (4x4 crewcab) can be had in the 20s. Definitely an amazing bargain.

Any reason the Frontier is SO much cheaper than a Tacoma, both being built in the USA?

Honestly I'd rather have the Frontier motor in the new Tacoma.

There are reports on Clubfrontier of people buying them $3-4k off MSRP for a top of the line Pro4x with luxury package.

Missing My Last Tacoma --- Had 11 Toyota trucks in the past and many other Toyota cars too.
...^^^... I have had 2 Frontiers and 1 Titan and they were good trucks ... but IMO ... quality was less than Tacoma & Tundra.

Plus ... Nissan's R&D costs have been absorbed and only minor "year to year" changes are needed.

Just my opinions from my experiences ... but I have never kept any vehicle above 20K miles in my life ... so my experiences may vary.

IMO ... when you buy a vehicle ... you also buy the culture & etc. of the parent company.

Japanese vehicles (especially Toyota & Honda) are hard to beat (even when made in USA).

These aren't production numbers. They are sales numbers. If the data is correct it means they sold more trucks in the month of May in 2015 compared to the month of May in 2016. That is all. The variables for the comparison would be interesting but sometimes it's just best to look at the units sold.

If someone knows for a fact that the reason was related to the inability to produce trucks in March or April, which would have affected May sales, please provide the detail and proof. Toyota announced last September they were adding shifts and hiring to increase production.

Tacoma's are more plentiful on the lots around me. It does seem sales have cooled some. You see discounting of trucks on cars.com and the local dealers around me.

I hope sales have cooled some. It means a better deal for me! :)

But the 3rd Gens I've sat in doesn't feel like a Japanese truck compared to my FJ and Land Cruiser which are Japanese. Maybe because it was designed by an American named Seatbelt Mike.

It's only going to harder for Toyota in this segment. We all know the new Ridgeline is coming, new Frontier is coming, the new Ranger is coming, FIAT/Chrysler are testing a small uni body truck and Mercedes and VW are considering a mid-sizer for the US market etc. It will only be a matter of time before Toyota starts to offer more incentives once the market is flooded.
This is why I think it sucks Toyota did the minimum for 2016. Though on paper it is a new generation, it is basically a glorified refresh and not necessarily a better truck in every way, which it should be.

I've seen plenty of 3rd Gens on lots here in AZ. Was at camelback toyota about 10 days ago and they had 20 in stock. Even saw 2 used ones at Courtesy Chevrolet when i test drove the duramax colorado. Salesman told me they were trade ins.

And if toyota sees that, they might get their ass in gear!

There is no teaching involved. Everything you said is pure speculation and the link has nothing to do with current sales. The reality is that more units are sitting on the lots now than they were at the end of last year, and the beginning of this year. You can speculate from El Paso, but I actually get to see this with my own two eyes.

Oh well, who gives a shit. Maybe a drop in sales will get their attention and they'll fix some issues.

I had a Frontier a number of years ago and it needed a head gasket replaced before I hit 24k. Definitely not the norm but did keep me from revisiting the brand. Not too mention that Nissan seems to refresh less often than Toyota with the Tacoma and Tundra but at least the two Yotas started off with a good base unlike the Frontier and Titan which have looked dated for years now but that is just my opinion. As someone else mentioned, this years refresh was minimal and the biggest change obviously was the powertrain but the bones of the body is essentially the same on the 3rd gen. I was actually hoping the crew cab would have gotten a little larger in the rear but I bought a mid-sized truck and can't really bitch too much. I just didn't want the mortgage size payment and larger fuel bills for a Tundra to gain the space I would have liked in the back seats.

You should see the first year FJ Cruisers in 2007. It sold more than any other model year that came after it. I think this is a bad sign for the 3rd gen.
