We need to keep an eye on Nissan to see what their remodeled Frontier is going to look like. They just redid the Titan and the engine/options on that thing look pretty beefy.

I know they wont come close to the Tacoma, but its going to be interesting to see.

I wonder if JD power is aware of 2nd gen frames disintegrating.

I've often wondered if Buick fares better than other GM products because Buick owners tend be older, more well-off individuals who baby their cars and don't really abuse them.

The 5.7l is really FAST but for some reason does not feel like it holds the road as well at speed, prolly 'cause not sport suspension. SR5's. Taco is Sport. I'm liking the overall handling better in the Taco and seating position. Tundras were more luxurious riding and acted like you would expect a large truck to act; parking an issue due to size and parking garages a no no. 0 mech issues with all three. Taco requires you to drive its way, once you reach agreement with it, best truck out of 7 I've owned including F150, 2500 turbo diesel stick, and 4.7 Dakota. I seek reasons to get behind the wheel of Taco, its just fun to drive.

Comparing Tundra to Tacoma = Apples to Oranges. Weight, Power, Size, etc are all very different. You really just can't compare the two for similarity purposes with the exception that they both have a truck bed. The transmission for one is mated with a completely different powerplant from the other and you will get very different performance factors and behavior factors for this reason. Same thing with the suspension. Not even sure why I have to say the obvious here....Are you just bored or did you forget to take your CRS pills again today?:drunk:

There are so many variables that go into sales numbers, that 1k less units sold compared to 2015 isn't going to tell us much if anything at all. There no one simple answer that will give us the reason and it's certainly not the simpleton doom and gloom arguments put up by Fuego.

    Thank you very much

I really like the double cab 5.7L tundra 4x4 with the 8 feet bed. They are damn cheap/affordable with dealer incentives to move them

I would put my 2016 Taco against any Frontier you decide to purchase in terms of reliability. I haven't experienced any of those problems.

Not all 2nd gen frames disintegrated but a number of them did to warrant the company to provide free replacement.

Along with many 1st gen trucks... you know, the Japanese built trucks.

I guess since you consider yourself "Toyota Guy" you should acquaint yourself with some of the history of the Japanese built truck problems, the ones that established the "reliability" and "resale value" where now you say Toyota has lost their way with the rollout of the 3rd generation.

I would know of these because I had first hand experience with some of them.

Early 70's and 80's pickups were notorious for rusting beds due to inferior metals being used. I personally had spot welds begin to rust over the rear wheel wells on my 86 within 2 years of ownership. I lived in San Diego at the time and the truck had never been driven in snow. There was damn near a cottage industry in Toyota truck bed replacements.

1989 - 1994 3.0 liter head gasket failures and sludge build up. Toyota would replace your engine up to 100k miles on the head gasket, my 91 popped out of warranty.

Red paint would turn orange or pink at the blink of an eye if you didn't keep it waxed all the time. My 99 was the worst, I will never own another red vehicle because of it.

Seatbelt would fail to retract, happened with all four of my previous Toyota trucks.

Premature leaf spring failures, ball joint failures, went through both on my 91.

1st gen frame failure that eventually did split in half at the dealership, my friend's 97.

Taco lean started with the 1st gen, my 99 and 04 had it, my 91 never had it.

Also might include a few carry overs into the 2nd Gen such as the rusted frames, leaf springs and drive line vibrations... (Shit I read on the internet but since I never owned a 2nd gen, I don't have personal experience to bash them so I don't).

All of that didn't seem to diminish Toyota's reputation for reliability and resale value.

But if you want a Frontier because it suits your needs, go ahead and buy it, be happy.

Just don't expect me to bash it like you do with the 3rd gens.

Has anyone actually seen a new Titan out on the road? I haven't yet. I did a crawl around on a diesel Titan at an auto show in January and besides the Cummins engine, the thing looked and felt cheap/weak. Build quality on the Tundra is much more substantial IMO. Oh, and I have an '07 Tundra and have loved every mile I have put on it.

Unless they define "problems" that is an absolutely useless chart. I'd rather have a 300 per 100 radio cutting out issues than 80 per 100 differential failures or 80 per 100 low transmission fluid levels for example. Maybe it was defined in the article, but if not then there's another prime example of how crappy data from a "reliable source" can just mix stronger kool aid.

I bet if somebody asked him to fold a fitted sheet into a perfect square he'd do that too

I am debating downsizing and have actually looked into the Ridgeline. The "speaker" part is actually sides of the bed. So there are no actual speakers to clog.
Oh and as far as payload ratings:
    Ridgeline: 1580lbs
    my Tundra: 1200lbs
Tacoma long bed: 1120lbs, so Tacoma can carry 30% less weight...

Also only midsize where you can put a 4x8 sheet in the bed between wheel wells. It's definitely not for everyone but I'm going to check one out when they come out with an open mind.

Well folks there it its, data to back it up, the numbers don't lie, the ridgeline has been design optimized for home depot trips since it won't outshine others in the class in many other aspects.

And the speakers in the bed gets me everytime. With that, the fact that the ridgeline already rides low enough with weak ground clearance, add some huge chrome rims, tinted windows, and a couple RIP stickers on the back, it will be the next big vehicle in Compton.
