The harness that plugs into those will be attached to the trailer.

Depending on the weight of the trailer a brake controller and or weight distribution hitch is required. Info will be in the owners manual.

LOL. I've been on this site for 10yrs now. Mostly learning, posting if I think I can help, and I haven't even gotten to 650. After reading this post before sending it I gotta admit my post number is pretty sad, you'd think after all this time I'd have more to offer.;):anonymous:

Depends on what type of connector/plug the trailer has on it's harness. The two that are already on your truck(7-blade and 4-flat) are the most common, but there are others. If the trailer has one of the others, you would need an adapter to plug it into the truck.

In that case... I'm hoping that it's Plug 'n Play. We won't have much time for building adapters

Photo from picking up my new trailer. Taco is pretty modified (4.88 gears, supercharged, shocks, sway bars, airbags with onboard compressor, UCA’s, rxt leafs, Redraw TBC, Andersen WDH, Stoptech front BBK, rear disc conversion, trans cooler) but tows almost as well as my old x5d…albeit with much worse mileage….(12mpg vs 19-20mpg). Tire pressure is key for stability (per the tip earlier in the this thread) - running the stock Goodyears @ 51 lbs. Running much less and a very unsettling side to side “Wobble” sets in.

The one thing no one has mentioned or asked is how big of a trailer and does it have trailer brakes? The Tacoma does not come with a brake controller built in, just a harness (underneath the driver's side kick panel). If it is a small trailer without brakes, then you should be fine with just the hitch and plugging in the lights into the plug by the license plate. If it is a bigger trailer with brakes, then you should have a trailer brake controller of some kind installed to control them, especially if there is any weight back there.

Guess I skimmed too quickly. Saw multiple mentions of how it was fine and they wouldn't need anything else, so just wanted to be sure brake controllers were mentioned. Glad 2024s will have them built in!

Tacoma drove beautifully, a nice change from towing with my s10.

It's a 5.5 x 10 aluminum trailer. We are going to pick up a used Kawasaki Mule 4010, similar to @Irons picture. It's about 150 miles away.

Psshh, you got this. That’ll total up to 3000lbs give or take a little. Trailer should come with a 4 way flat, or 7 pin round.

When you load it on the trailer try and center it forward or back to keep the tongue weight around 250#. Strap it down well all four corners and check the straps a couple of times early on. It's best for the machine to tow with it in neutral, letting the tie down straps do their job. That way it won't damage the machines drivetrain or wear out it's parking brake.

You should be fine. Back the toy on to the trailer so you have the bulk of the weight (engine) in front of the axle and not behind.

For weight distribution this is true. But for wind resistance, that's another story. One of my friends blew his Polaris ranger windshield out all over the freeway from loading it backwards. It seems these things can't handle that much wind resistance facing rearward.

Yikes about the windshield blowout... I was worried about rocks the whole way back with it. If something didn't hit my truck it would surely hit the Mule. But we made it unscathed. I didn't see the post about rear-facing transport until this evening though anyway, so it traveled facing forward.
It's at my sister's property (20 acres) about 30 miles from where we are moving to (14 acres). Act of sale is July 28th. My wife grew up in the country about 7 miles from where we are moving to. But this is gonna be all new to a 70 year old city boy. But at 70 it's like now or never . . .
