4900 lbs seems like a lot. Fully loaded you'll be near the max tow capacity for the Tacoma. A brake controller and weight distribution hitch, like you said, would be a must. Probably want something to monitor trans temp too.

My take, I wouldn't tow anything bigger than my Winnebago Micro loaded up at 5K lbs. Truck has to work real hard on those long climbs in the SW to the cooler temps. 3rd at 3500rpm mile after mile gets annoying after a while.

    Just my take.

Originally not Expo AF! Kinda Expo AF now...lame.
Yea, had similar sized TT, upgraded to 1/2 Ton truck, then just sold it all cause I didn't like having a bigger truck. Life lessons like those aren't very cheap....

Either way, truck and trailer look really good together!

Dude, towed baldy's SRT yesterday. Besides the frame feeling like it was going to rip apart, the 2.7L and Dirty Fives did pretty well. Didn't really hit 5th gear much. But the trailer has (4) 12x2 brakes, and it stopped no prob.

I'm assuming the weight was ~7,200lbs. 12k Custom Equipment Trailer ~3,000lbs  Challenger 4,200lbs.

Isn't the tow limit with the 2.7 litre 3500 pounds?

How far did you tow that beast? And do you have the 6speed auto or 5spd manual?

5-Speed Manual. Didn't tow it too far. Mainly it was just to see how it would do. I had to put it in low range to back up, it was a little to much for the clutch. I honestly think if you had a SPEC class Miata or Civic or something and a light weight aluminum car trailer, and were heading to the track, the 2.7L wouldn't have a problem towing it.

Taking off on an incline was a little stressful, 4.88's helped.

When I pulled my boat with my 2.7 it was everything third gear had to maintain 40 mph up a moderate grade. Boat is about 3500 lbs. Flats were fine. Hills were not.

I would recommend when towing the use S5 or S4 and push the ECT power button.
Nice car, my friend has the same car but in Black.

IMG_5624.jpg Fishin trip...pulled the old basstracker out, and towed it about .5 miles up a hill... performed well. My step-father and I discussed ECT or specific gears, but didn't use any for the light load.

Finally got out with our new R-pod camper trailer for it and the 2016 Tacoma maiden trip up to Boone, NC which for those not familiar is located in the northern mountains of NC. Traveled from an elevation of around 800’ to our campsite in Boone at 3,330 plus so there are some long step grades to pull and descend. The Tacoma preformed flawless and other then the gas mileage dropping to around 14.6 mpg’s I have no complaints. Ran the truck in ETC mode and took advantage of the manual shifting of the automatic transmission. The truck ran fine in in either 5th or 6th gear except on very steep grades when I had to drop down to 4th either climbing or descending. Engine temperature was stable with no movement and transmission ran flawless. All in all, I’m very satisfied with the performance of the Tacoma pulling this camper. Next up is the big test when we head north for a few weeks come this July and tackle the Allegheny Mountains of Pennsylvania and West Virginia.

When we tow my buddy's 15' whaler (maybe 1500lbs wet?) We don't use ant specific modes. Can hardly tell it's back there

We just ordered a toy hauler on Friday. Dune Sport in Arizona is the only manufacturer who makes them 14 feet long in full 96" width. All their trailers are custom so we went there and they planned out what we wanted in a CAD program. We moved some walls, added cabinet by door, cabinet above fridge, pantry next to fridge, moved beds all the way back, 15kBTU AC with the heater strip, no oven, no awning, 5cf fridge, spare tire, 50/50/50 tanks, electric bunk bed, dual batteries, rear jacks. Most of the small items could not be purchased for their price with install.

Dry weight should come out around 3500-3600 pounds, they estimated. They have to scale it for the MSO so I will know exact dry weight when we sign the documents. They have a 12-16 week manufacturing time due to each trailer being custom planned.

We are very excited for it. We went with Dune Sport because Carson and Dune Sport are the only manufacturers who make 14' Toy Haulers. The Carson base models, without any options, cost as much as this one does with all the options listed above. My dad has a Carson and the build quality isn't great. I looked inside one of the trailers that had a flip up front bed and it looked quite nice build-wise. I assume Carson costs more because their business is inside California.

This is a 14' toy hauler they had just completed. It has the same overall floor plan but ours has some walls moved and more cabinets.

We just bought this generator at Costco. It's made to power an effing house during periods of power loss, but the price was too good to pass up. It's 200 pounds, so it's heavy, but at 549 bucks, you can't beat it.
