Nice. Heaviest I've towed is a 5.9 99 durango about 40 miles highway speeds. Got 16 mpgs. I've got a 7.3 f350 diesel. But at times I've gotta use the tacoma

I'd say you're good to go for the occasional tow. Hmm..didn't mean to rhyme that but I did. I'm the best.

I just recently purchased a Flagstaff E-PRO 19FD. http://www.forestriverinc.com/product-details.aspx?LineID=454&Image=23079&ModelID=3557#Main. The Dry weight is just under 3000 Lbs. I installed a
Eaz Lift ReCurve R6 Hitche with On/Off Sway Control- 600 lb. tongue weight WDH and I use the Tekonsha P3 brake controller. The 2016 Taco 4X4 TRD Sport has the tow package. Our first trip to the foothills of NC, the Taco did fine. Stayed mainly in 4th, but was able to use 5th and on occasion 6th. Also meant to add that I got around 12 MPG.

Picked up the new Cricket camper today. Pulled fine coming home. Lots of fourth gear/3000 rpm in the hills.

They have been around for, maybe, 5 years(?). But, this is only number 695.IMG_1810.jpg
They make a smaller one too that is really cool. Taxa Outdoor.

Scaled out at +400 on the rear axle and 5650 on the trailer axles... pretty close to a full load.

    IMG_20170702_192843.jpg

Launching this thing sucks really bad. The engine simply refuses to rev even a tiny bit above idle unless you give it more than 50% throttle. That coupled with the goofy clutch makes getting heavy loads out of the hole a real chore. It feels 100% like the throttle doesn't want to work, and not like a problem with lack of power.

Figuring the Orange Virus tune, when they get more throttle mapping worked out on the manual trucks, plus a little clutch project I have planned, should fix. Will keep everyone posted.

Does anyone else's manual truck start to vibrate in 1st gear at mid-high rpms when getting on the throttle with a full load?

I have the same experience towing my race car & trailer with my manual. I found from a dead stop I need to delay the clutch release significantly and keep the rpm's up until things get going. Definitely don't shift into 2nd right away or it bogs back down. If I accelerate at full throttle in 1st I get some vibrations as well but once into 2nd it goes away. The transmission mount seems to flex a lot under load.

On a positive note, once things get moving it performs well in the higher rpms and returns decent fuel economy.

Eliminating the clutch release cylinder. I will post the write-up when I get to it, have the part needed, just need some time.

WRT Orange Virus, go look at the huge sprawling post on "Alpha Tune" in the main 3rd gen page here... much excitement going on there.

Nice setup, what's this beast weigh? I tow a Forest River with my 3rd Gen too, Grey Wolf 17BHSE model at 4200lbs.

Also, which tow mirrors you have?

I finally got to tow my boat with my new Tacoma with just barely over 500 miles on the odometer. The trip was only about 30 miles one way with some hills. I used S4 and ECT and tried to keep the speed between 50 and 60. I did see 4,000 RPM on one down shift but mostly no higher than 3000. Over all I pleased with how the Tacoma performed. I think I’ll keep it.

Just got back from vacation. Happy to say the truck towed the boat just fine. The boat is a 22ft Angler grand bay not sure how much it weighs but no issues. Even with lift and larger tires. Love this truck.
