+1 agree the car dolly is the way to go.

Otherwise if your looking at putting the car on a trailer you'll need at least install a brake controller and Weight Distribution and Anti Sway hitch, hope you bought the trailer package with your Tacoma? With all that expense for just one trip if it was me I'd be looking at hiring a car hauling company to take the car across country, let the girlfriend pay for it! :D

    Mostly stuff I built.
I'd still use the dolly. U-haul car haulers seriously suck with any thing smaller than a 3/4 ton truck.

Check to see if you can dolly it. Our tacos aren't supposed to be towed like that so be careful.

Truck has pulled the travel trailer fantastically all summer. Super happy with it.

I hope I'm not off topic. I just wanted to brag that I got to tow this over the weekend and though I could feel the MPG hit, it towed really smoothly. The new axle and electric brakes made stopping and controlling the trailer easy, and I really like the features of the P3 I installed (screwed into the dash to the lower right of the steering wheel, nothing fancy).

I got a set of 4 wheels and tires with 50 miles on them for $600, so I thought it a steal when I needed new wheels and tires to replace the original military tires. Also, this isn't lifted. That's the standard (if not lower than standard) ride height for the M101A2 military trailer. I reused the original springs and shocks.

The trailer is finally ready - towed it empty and the Taco had no issue... expecting the gas mileage to suck once loaded with some toys.

7x14 enclosed all aluminum dual axle trailer (3,500# torsion axles, w/various other upgrades).

I have a brake controller and the Sumo Super Springs...

I can take a guess what went sideways. The first time I pulled my 23'er out I had some similar issues. I was on a mossy/slippery and fairly steep ramp. I put it in 4LO and started to go and got wheel spin, flibbered and stalled it. I tried again and went back a few inches and lurched it... stalled. I thought I was stuck there - but for some odd reason when you go to 4LO it turns off the magic traction genie so you can get wheel spin. Odd choice for a default I think. When I went to turn it back on I remembered the reason I bought the OR model! I used locker diff. Presto. Like a boss - rev to 2k slip it out quickly and away she goes. I also load it up against the ebrake and release it as the pedal comes up so there is no rollback at all to have to overcome. Because even a little backward motion with a heavy load on a hill is going to make that clutch have to slip a lot more to overcome the torque of all that going the wrong way. For reference... this comes out without any clutch smoke now that I've got it all worked out. I did it twice today! Ya just have to unlock the rear and get out of LO before you try to turn at the top of the ramp or it will bind you up tight and then it's hard to get out of 4LO and moving again without backing up and straightening it all out (guess how I know that? :) ). An autotragic would make it a lot easier but then there would be nothing to achieve victory over at the boat launch ;)

FWIW, I get between 10 and 12MPG towing this thing on the interstate over about 1.5k feet of elevation a few times in the 110 mile round trip to the lake too. That isn't nearly as terrible as I expected for a 6k+ load when the fuel tank is full and the boat packed at the start of the day.

Use to tow this with my 2014 trd sport DC SB from Virginia to W.V. about 200 miles one way. Alot of hills aswell. It did just fine. But my 2017 trd off-road does alot better in every way except maybe lower rpm torque. But not enough to raise a fuss over. After the trailer, 4 wheelers and gear, it's right about 3,000. I can see 5,000 being no big deal.
Also the 3rd gen doesn't sag as much as my 2nd gen with the same load. Added helpers to the 2nd gen.

Towing a 31' travel trailer dry weight is 5900 lbs. mods have been. Brake controller, 10 ply Hancook tires, old man emu dakers, load distribution hitch. My truck is a '16 TRD OR. She pulls it with no problems. Getting 11.5 GPM while towing. Next trip is this weekend to Vermont!

Have herd to many people scared to tow anything close to that. Most will say it won't or shouldn't tow the 6400 that toyota claims. I don't see any issues with it.
