Just bought a 2021 Coleman Light 1805RB which is around 4500lbs dry weight. This is my current tow setup. I’m using Equalizer weight distribution hitch with 4-point sway control coupled with Redarc Tow-Pro Elite electric brake controller. Running Icon RTX Leaf-pack on option 1. I’m planning on switching to option 3 to mitigate squat when hitched. Truck definitely feels the weight. It feels solid in terms of stability and braking. I know towing is not a race and this will do until they figure out all the kinks on the new tundras to get into one. Hope you guys have a great weekend!

Need advice on hauling with 5160s and deaver j66s (very soft leaf pack) (about a 1” rear lift).

Picking up a tractor about 350 miles away. Tractor weighs roughly 3200 and I believe the dual axle 20’ trailer is about 2000. I hate to sound like a wimp, but does this sound do-able? I know the engine/trans can handle the the weight, but as far is making my leafs frown instead of smile after the trip is my concern. Should i try to borrow a stock 2nd gen or full size truck? Or should i be good? Not in a time crunch so wont be going 80, but will be going through rolling hills in KY and TN.

    thanks

    Lol @ bolded.

Make sure you have trailer brakes and take your time, you will be fine with your truck. S4 or S5 and ECT. Be prepared to stop for gas, Expect about 12 MPG, any more is a bonus.

Rear will sag, but lots of stock trucks are put to work and do fine.

Nitro 5.29’s finally installed and broken in, Magnuson in. Hopefully a more enjoyable tow going forward. It’s been a long wait, I ordered the gears last May and the Magnuson in august!

Yep, it was expensive, but, I didn’t want to spend $50-$70K for a full size pickup and I still like my low miles taco.

We’ll be staying mostly local for a while given current gas prices.

Yeah, at that trailer weight would def want to step up to a Tundra or similar size truck. Especially with the added weight of everything you put into the trailer like water etc. Like you said slow and steady.

Broke it in a few weeks ago with moving furniture from Hartford CT to Boston MA with a 5x9 uhaul rental. Oddly enough, I was averaging better mpg's with the trailer than I did commuting to work that week (15mpg with no trailer to 16 with the small trailer and ECTS+S5)

So far so good. They work great especially in conjunction with the Magnuson.

I do hear them whine a little bit it’s no big deal between the exhaust and the radio, and sounds a bit like my electric Jag coming to a stop.

I haven’t experienced a single gear hunting episode yet on the highway and with limited highway driving to date due to the break in period I’m averaging 15.6 mpg over two tankfuls.

    On 33” tires, 2100ish RPM at 65mph and 2350RPM at 70mph.

Hope to do a little towing come late April so that will tell more.

So you're into boost at 75 mph? I'd be curious of what your mpg was cruising at interstate speeds.

I don’t think it’s heavily boosted at 70. Just cruising along to be honest. Time will tell.

Really wondered about this setup and tempted. He tell you anything about it and how well it was working out (or not)? Also where to find someone to make the fifth wheel for a Tacoma?
