My question, I have a Gen 2 Taco 2.7, 4 cylinder. I need a muffler. Toyota does not depart with them cheaply. I can purchase privately a 700 K/M (approx 400 mile) muffler (catback, I believe they call it) at 1/3 the price of a new one. Now the question, I know I can install the assembly physically, very small modification (shown on Tacomaworld), Is it ok to install a V6 catback on to a 4 cylinder Taco as far as far as engine operation/ performance goes?
eg, the truck will run ok?
Catbacks are easy to find from V6 models with the people who like to replace/ upgrade their exhaust system, this is why I am considering doing this. I just want a quiet truck.

Thank you in advance for any input.

It won't hurt anything - sounds like you already know about the modifications necessary for physical install, which is the only real gotcha.

Thanks Deanosaurus, going to grab the 300 USD cat back with the 400 miles on it, should be good for another 13 years, hope I am. Cheers.

Just an update, I've installed the the Gen 3 catback from a V6 Tacoma onto my 2011 Tacoma 4 cylinder. Just chopped off the fwd flange and clamped the exhaust pipe to pipe. Put on the aft hanger that is a east/west on top and attaches north/south onto the exhaust pipe. Sounds like new after having a 3rd party muffler installed. Love it.

    Cheers.
