If this thread already exists, apologies.

I have a deposit on a TRD OR that should arrive some time in March. I bumped up the tires on my current SR5 to 265/70 R16, which is a bit bigger than normal. The new truck comes with 265/70 R17 tires. Thoughts on upsizing the tires on the new truck without rubbing? Or is the stock size on the 24 pretty much as large as you’d go without a lift?

I love this conversation, but definitely need the SEMA diagnostic info to be shared... I always start with a visual comparison:
    at websites like here:
oh look: Tire Size Calculator - Compare Tire Sizes | Tacoma World

but I'm pretty sure there's a better calculator/fitting tool out there for Tacomas... I just haven't started looking yet.

The hybrid comes with 265/70r18 or a “33” stock on the OR so in theory you can at least bump up to a similar size tire a 285/70r17 should work stock on these then as the cab mount isn’t there it’s barely over the stock 33” size and you can adjust caster a bit to pull it forward. I’m gonna try this on mine that’s due here in a few weeks with my Volks. There’s a video showing 35s are likely possible too by removing the bracket in front.

Looking forward to seeing how that turns out, TacoBuffet! I imagine we’ll start seeing photos of peoples units here soon.

My temporary VIN dropped off Dec 13, was supposedly a 18-24 production week build. Still waiting for the real VIN and transit. It’s killing me for sure. Got parts already here waiting besides the stupid 1L7 paint pen I can’t seem to locate.

Yes, I remember seeing that too. They made it removeable specifically so you could fit bigger tires without chopping up the truck. I thought that was a cool feature. Good job on that one Toyota.

I've ordered an ORP and what I'm looking for is any new wheels coming out that will fit the new bore size.

New bore size is smaller than 3rd gen, so most wheels for 3rd gen CAN fit, offset is what you need to worry about (speculated ideal fitment is +20mm approximately for flush or minimum poke)
if you want exactly hubcentric wheels, aka 95mm bore, that's a tough one, I have yet to see one, maybe when 4th gen comes out there will be more volume for them to produce it, for now 95mm only gonna fit Tundras and Sequoias, we should see 95mm getting more popularity when the rest of Toyota's body on frame vehicles (GX 550, Land Cruiser, 4Runner) adopt it

Thanks that is about as much as I know of the bore size but wasn't thinking about the offset. Hope to see how fast the aftermarket brings the goods.

So, 17-inch 4Runner Sema Pro wheels would fit no problem?

Yeah my temp vin just stopped working so I have no idea what that means. At this point I'm may either buy a Tundra or wait for thr hybrid Taco.

The TRD Offroad (not pro) comes with that size.

Yeah I think the only obstacle to 33s will be the upper control arms. We'll see when the roll in.

You'd need to drill out the lug holes to accept the larger M14 lug nut shank diameter.

That sucks that old Toyota wheels won’t fit without drilling the lug holes and finding a hub spacer ring. I think it would need to be a 93mm to 106mm ring. I would imagine that most of us have a few sets of wheels already that are now useless in new trucks.

^A few sets of wheels? How much garage space do you have?

Incidentally aftermarket wheels aren't as badly affected, because they use conical seat lugnuts, and the countersink angle remains the same, so you just pick up a set of M14 lugnuts and new hubcentric rings and go.

I suspect 4th gen will be able to fit 35s with no trimming. Once you remove the mudflap bracket from the cab mount, there's a lot more tire clearance to the cab mount. 35s will probably become a popular upgrade like 33s are today. ARB had a 4th gen in its SEMA booth on 35s, and ARB is as conservative as they come.
