You guys should just put in a ski lift for when it snows. No tire will get you up that hill before the plow truck!

I am pretty sure that 2000# payload on the twins is the 2WD with the bed delete option. Assuming the 4WD's will be under 1500#.
Don't how the Tacoma guys are not blowing past pay load. Base FWC is 800lbs...the wife is 115#, I am 175#...they have a 20 gallon water
tank, so that is another 167#...so right there you're at 1257#. DCLB Taco has a payload of 1215#

Sure guys do it, but it isn't legal nor exactly safe.

I have been camping with bare minimums for years, like a bivy sack, hammock, or in the bed of the truck. Want to upgrade to something more comfortable. There is a 3000# payload option on the F150...still a 3/4 ton would the best option, I would think...or I could say "whatever" and just bluff it on the Colorado, like the Tacoma guys do...everyone gets real quiet when you ask them how they are not going over payload.

Ha! I get home from work yesterday...she says to me "I am freezing, it was cold...had to wear my hoodie all day, the house didn't get above 73º..."

    Oh goood lord... :D

So no, I don't want a temp gauge in my truck...because she'll be constantly looking at every 20 minutes, saying "It is how cold outside!?"....yeah it is 72º we are all gonna die.... :p

I'm so glad we have a son. He and I are able to win the thermostat wars. Many times I've said "Honey, you can always put more clothes on. We can only get so naked..."

can I have another gripe? LOL

dealer put a license plate frame advertising their dealership on. but due to their stupidity and placement of the renewal sticker, the frame covers up half of the sticker. good way to get pulled over....

now the real gripe...the license plate screws are screwed into the PLASTIC bumper cap....the plastic is already stripped out.....dumbness....LOL

if my plate falls off over the next decade.....I'll...I'll...LOL

PS: what is up with it constantly beeping if you are in Low 4wd? dumb

I hope you are joking that you don't know why it's beeping

Read the 4WD placard on your sunvisor. If it's beeping it's because you have never used 4L properly. You have to be basically stopped and in neutral before attempting to engage 4L. If it beeps you are not in 4L. You'll be able to tell when you are in 4L because it's hard to miss the extreme gearing change.

dude, let's see...I've had 4 tacomas (actually the 89 - 96 versions), 2 tundras, and now this tacoma....I've used the Low 4....and I get it into low 4.....

and I am an idiot. so on this new truck I just tried it and it is fine....BUT, the one I test drove would NOT go into low 4. Even the dealer guy tried. When I returned to pick up my truck I asked him on this and he said he checked with service and they said that's how it is , it keeps beeping in low $WD....

so WHY am I taking their word for it?...LOL

AND this thread and I should move onto the proper forum LOL

Sorry man. It just made me laugh. We had a guy come out on a trail run not to long ago that complained about this. He had been wheeling alone for months thinking he was in 4L when he was in 4H. It made me laugh and reminded me of that.

Sometimes 4L on these trucks gets finicky. I've never had an issue but I know another 2013 that will only engage if the truck is rolling a bit (still under 3 mpg but moving). Likely the truck on the lot wouldn't go in because the sales guy tried it on pavement with the truck stopped. If things aren't lined up and you don't move a bit it won't go.

yeah I was solo in the demo one, went back N forth on a road and could not get it to indicate Low 4 engaged....chalked it up to "new system"....I should know better and happy it's not true...I just schooled the dealer too ;)

Yeah, it's been a while since I've seen one of those. My first work truck back when I was 18 had one. It's kind of the same situation as the manual transmission. Less and less reasons out their for manual anything as the automatic systems get better.

Plus can't you take an FJ manual box and install it in a Tacoma? I swear I know someone who did that.

There are a lot of electronic gizmos I do like, but trans and t-cases aren't one of them. The e-version can get a little fussy on trail runs where you are in and out of 4L/4H often.

Yeah, I read that swap somewhere, either on here or one of the other Toyota sites.

My electronic has been fine but I agree. I would prefer the trail teams manual transfer case out of the 4Runner in the Tacoma to the current offering, but then again for everyone else out there using the Tacoma in the city the electric option is much prettier and easier to use. Plus the electric stops people from doing stupid things like putting the truck in 4L at 30 kph.
