Im not arguing that it wont be, but to simply bash on someone for buying an "archaic" truck that is proven and not to mention lets be honest the 3rd gen is a 2.7 gen, the thing was improved upon a proven 2nd gen platform. Take away the fancy gizmo tech stuff and a new powertrain its essentially the same damn truck.

Hey man I know where you're coming from. I even considered buying a new 2nd gen because I really liked the looks of it. I placed an order for a 3rd gen back in August knowing that I could back out if I didn't like it. Before yesterday, I had never even seen the truck in person. Last night I drove an hour and a half to a dealer to take a test drive in a '16 TRD Sport, already having a good idea what the 2nd gens were like. It was a definite improvement, and really luxurious. I think they really brought the truck into this decade with all the cool techy stuff, and I loved the styling a lot more after actually being able to look at one with my own eyes.

The 3rd gen doesn't make the 2nd gen look archaic. It has a lot of styling cues that let you know it's still a Tacoma (a good thing IMO.) I'll just say that it is an improvement. And that's coming from someone who enjoys all Tacomas, Pickups, and 4Runners.

As for the engine debate... I trust Toyota. My close friends and I are all Toyota nuts, and between us we have or have had:
    1997 4Runner - 300k
    1998 Corolla - 380k
    1999 4Runner - 190k
    2000 4Runner - 200k
    2001 4Runner - 135k
    2003 4Runner - 215k
    2004 4Runner - 155k
    2005 4Runner - 165k
    My 2006 4Runner - 110k
    2011 4Runner - 70k

And NONE of those had any engine or tranny issues. My other friends that are loyal to Ford and Chevy on the other hand... well we all laugh at them when their truck is in the shop every 6 months

It's a 2.7 because Toyota tends to do things right. The Chevy Colorado could be on their 6th generation now and still suck ass

So take away all the new tech and the new powertrain...thanks for proving my point. lol And bottom line, people shouldn't post shit comments on people's truck saying they're the ugliest thing they've ever seen if they can't take insults back.

@SDTaco4x4 I think the truck you're getting looks badass. Different strokes for different folks. I think every truck out there right now is hideous except the Tacoma and F150, the Tundra is ok

Yeah I'm tired of the tired comment that it's not a 3rd gen or it's the same truck. Well, yeah, besides all the new tech, the new interior, new exterior, new engine, transition, etc...yeah they're pretty similar. It still has 4 wheels and a bed in the back. lol

"The cab shape is the same"
    "Rear drum brakes"
    "Same door handles"
Apparently 3 similarities make it the exact same truck

Get the JBL, the sport I drove didn't have it, sounded awful lol

This picture from toyota looks orange, in person it's not. Looks more red. I like it once I saw it in person.

Wish they did it with all the colors. Blazing blue bezel and stitching would look good I think.

That's a pretty simplified explanation and rather filled with holes. But I'll let you guys continue the 3rd gen circle jerk. Not saying its improved or a good truck and it looks different, some like some don't who cares, and the 3rd gen section is not the only section where people bash on other people's opinions, grow up and ignore it. And yes the 3rd gen is a heavily refreshed 2nd gen, a lot is similar and/or improved upon so pay some due respect to the fact your beloved 3rd gen was the evolution of a 2nd gen and keep the stupid immature comments like "archaic to yourself". For those that have been around both trucks and have a knowledge of both the trucks are pretty damn similar.

Calling it 2.7 gen is what is what's stupid and immature. The days of radical redesigns are all but gone unless a vehicle was flop. The 3rd gen Tacoma is completely in line with what a new generation of a vehicle is today.

Idk what differentiates a circle jerk from a section that allows people that are interested in 3rd gens to talk about what we like. I don't go into the second gen section and feel like I have to validate my purchase by bashing on your trucks saying things like they look outdated or ugly or whatever. It seems like up until recently so many 1st and 2nd gen folk came to the 3rd gen section just to bash a truck that a lot of us are interested in. That doesn't make a fun experience on the forum when you have to read through so many "ugly" "catfish face" "stupid grill" replies to actually find some useful information

This. The 3rd gen section has become a cesspool of 2nd gen owners taking a shit on the 3rd gen model. If you don't like it, why are you wasting your time in the 3rd gen section? I haven't been in the 2nd gen section in a while, but are there a bunch of 3rd gen-ers trolling it up in there? And you gotta love how supporting the 3rd gen in the 3rd gen section is classified as a circle-jerk. Good grief...

I'm not sure, I don't visit that section because I'm not getting a 2nd gen lol. I can't imagine they have to deal what what we do in the 3rd gen section. It's annoying to say the least

Something tells me people raided the 2nd gen section and went on about how much better looking and modern the 3rd gen was than their trucks, it wouldn't be well received. There may even be a 2nd gen "circle jerk". lol

I feel like the 3rd Gen section started much before it was even created, and this thread in particular started out as many other threads. So there was no "coming to the 3rd gen section". It was TW members talking about the next release, and this got moved to this section.

From what I remember, there was much distaste for this new truck from the beginning. However, there was also a "wait and see" mentality. Now that it is out, I think a lot of members who were excited about moving from a 2nd Gen to the "New Gen" were very disappointed.

I'm personally still rocking my 1st Gen, and was contemplating the new one. I was hopeful that what was offered was so awesome that I couldn't help but buy it. (Admittedly, I am starting to move toward the crowd that wants to buy a truck that I don't HAVE to change a bunch of stuff to make it how I like it.) This did not happen for me with the Tacoma.

You're just regretting the fact that you should have waited for the 2016 since you now have an old ass truck (2015, but really a 2005). We'll enjoy our updated truck. You'll be waiting till 2026 for the next gen.
