I just can't get excited about it. That engine has it's own drawbacks. VM designed, the timing belt, the harmonic balancer in the transmission (problems already happening overseas with a similar design causing transmission failures) and that emissions system doesn't have me thinking it will be a super engine once they've been on the road a few years. I always could be wrong but, like most things GM, this truck will likely show it's true shitty stripes once they are in the hands of consumers.

I'm sure you're right but at least it's an option. My biggest complaint about the Tacoma is its lack of options... I can't get it the way I want it, only in a handful of different configurations that Toyota wants to sell. And furthermore they have shit I don't want and are missing things I would like to have. I haven't directly looked into the GM twins but I know I can get an F150 exactly the way I want and it options a ton of great stuff that I could take or leave at my own discretion. Problem is I don't want or need a full size.

I know that more options means a higher price tag because the manufacturers have to be more nimble but none the less. I feel like I should be able to get it the way I want it when pushing $40k...

Just curious what options don't you want and us that a deal breaker?

Cool. Yeah I don't remember the sport I drive doing that.

Forgot to add that this one had JBL too. Night and day difference.

What I want but can't have
    • Leather
    • Locker
    • Longbed
    • Manual
    • Power seats
    • Heated/cooled seats
    • Bi-xenon HIDs or better yet LEDs
    • JBL system
    • Moonroof
    • Back up camera/back up sensors
    • Homelink
    • Rear cross traffic alert (don't really need but sure why not)
    • Blind spot monitor (sure why not)
    • Diesel or V8... lol I know this a pipe dream but none the less its worth putting cus if it was an option I'd damn sure get it
What I don't want but will probably end up with
    • crawl control
    • multi-terrain select
    • qi wireless charging
    • chrome
    • wheels I don't like
    • drum brakes lol

Most of those things can be had but only in certain configurations and to get one thing removes some of the others. Some aren't available at all. It's not necessarily a deal breaker, I may still end up getting one but I'll be settling for one of their configurations.

Well the manual transmission doesn't have crawl control or multi Terrain select. So that's two things you don't need to worry about.

Everything but the cooled/power seats and v8/diesel can be added aftermarket. And don't write off the headlights just yet, I personally think that they are perfect.

For me its not being able to get a TRD sport with a quad cab, six foot bed and manual transmission. Even though the same configuration is available as an automatic.

Get a DCLB TRD OR Manual with JBL package and it should have most of those things. Get Katzkin leather seats with Degreez @jhuey8947 once they're available for 3rd gen.
Crawl control and multi terrain select are for automatics. Are the headlights really going to bother you? I thought they were projectors anyway.

With a DCLB TRD OR Manual (that exists now, right?) you should just be missing the moon roof and power seats?

Yeah I don't mind aftermarket suspension/wheels/tires/armor but trying to redo an interior aftermarket never turns out satisfactory to me. Fit/finish is never as good as it is from the factory.

Yeah Toyota sucks for options packages. It's all one package fits all.

No longbed with manual. No JBL with manual. Headlights are no big deal really, they are projectors but still..

And as I said in previous post I'm not a fan of aftermarket interior (leather). Fit/finish isn't good enough. At that point I'll just roll with the cloth but if leather was an option from the factory I'd definitely get it.

I personally like the interior, but I also came from plastic hell that was a 2007 jeep wrangler.

Nope. Only short bed with DC manual. As someone said to be yesterday, because Toyota hates me lol. Its fine though, more money that stays in my pocket sinces it not going to toyota until they let me buy the truck I want.

I like it too! It's a great interior, just wish I could get it the way I want... leather, power and cooled seats (its ridiculously hot most of the year down here).

Wow that sucks. I don't understand that decision. I figured if you could get a TRD OR longbed, you could get a manual with it. That's very liable to be a deal breaker. No JBL with manual? Seriously? Also, I must say Katzkin fits as good as you put it in from what I've seen. If it doesn't look OEM you didn't install it correctly. I definitely understand the want/need for cooled seating living near the gulf.
The 05-15 Tacoma isn't a whole lot better. It is not cheap or crappy by any means but it sure is plain.

Personally the last thing I would want in a vehicle is an upgraded stereo system since the amount you pay for the factory upgraded system can buy a much better system. First thing I do to a vehicle is put in my own audio system and with jap cars its pretty simple usually.

Tbh I'm surprised the 2016 kept the manual. It's been gone from 90 percent of full sized trucks for a decade and no one here seems to complain.

Pretty much have to drop the factory headunit if you go this route and that looks atrocious to me. Not to mention you have to rip off damn near every panel on your brand new truck to install everything. I like some good audio but I'd rather just pay some $ to have a good enough system from the factory and it be factory clean.
