    I am more interested in the torque numbers and the power band

    I mean I love the FRS. But since it was brought up. That car as light as it is, with 200 hp feels anemic. The tacoma with 236 hp and much more fat, feels substantially more powerful.

    Hp sells cars, torque actually matters.

    I agree with you on this :thumbsup:

    I just want more low to mid end torque. 25-27 mpg on highway would be ideal for me to get rid of my 2nd gen.

    I'm keeping my 2nd gen. Not because I don't like the third gen but I have enough invested into my current Tacoma that I want to keep it for a while. That being said, with the way the 2nd gen lingered on, I'm sure in 6-7 years the 3rd gen will still be around waiting for me.

    I can safetly say it'll be 8 yrs before we see the 4th gen Tacoma. Hopefully by then the driveline vibe is actually fixed :laugh: and we get self drive and hover mode like in Back To The Future :D

    I'm trying to take it one step at a time lol. I'm trying to like this truck, but it's hard. I hated the 2nd gen when I first saw it and then later had to have one. When the 2012 facelift came - I thought they ruined the Tacoma. Then all of a sudden I was like, That shit does look good!

    So I'm hoping that's going to happen with the 3rd gen - but right now I have serious doubts.

    I would need to see minimum 30mpg city to pry me away from the 2nd gen...

    If you pay attention to the CAFE standards, each truck has to go up by 2mpgs after 2017, per year just about, so the longer you wait...the more money you save on gas.

    I'm sorry, but there is no reason why a full size truck can nearly achieve this goal in 2015...but a midsize Tacoma cannot. Toyota is lacking big time in the efficiency department. Big Oil is their best friend presumably.

    But the full size trucks don't return decent mileage unless you are driving 55mph unloaded on flat land. The one that does, the Ram diesel, is Prius slow. So we have half the people bitching about not having 300 horsepower and the other half bitching about fuel economy. You won't get both in spades.

    Either way, the 2G Tacoma has an old ass drivetrain. The new one appears to make a little more power (15%) and has all the 1GR's missing tech to really boost fuel economy (dual VVT, VVTi-W, direct injection, roller rocker valve train, etc). It will do considerably better than the full size trucks, IMO.
