** OK - new member warning here **

My first and only Taco was a used 1989 Ext. Cab just after college. Drove across the country 3 times in it, drove all over the south west, camped in the bed... favorite vehicle of all time. Had to sell it after 1 year to make the bills. 20 years, 3 kids, 2 houses later.. it's my time again. Waiting for the 2016 to come out! Has anyone seen any details on HP/MPG? No bitching here :)

    Welcome to TW!

SOME of our compatriots here would advise you to read through all the other threads first. Ignore them.

A press release intimated 270 HP for the V6, but no empeegee numbers yet. Ordering should be open in early August, and I expect all (or most) questions will be answered then.

Such a good truck. Mine was the last of the "TOYOTA" grill badge, manual everything. What I would give to get it back!

Thanks for the reply. I did find the questionable press release - but was hoping there was something I overlooked. I love the summer but can't wait for August in this case. There is a small part of me that wonders if I should go buy a 2015 now - it's a pretty rock solid truck.

Just press backspace and get the hell out of this thread if you want useful information. There's a lot of it on the 3rd Gen page

New member, keep in mind the TRD supercharger program is discontinued so the only Toyota trucks applicable are 2015 and older. That's not to say other companies won't make one for the 2016 in a few years.

I agree. The aftermarkets will most likely have one for the 2016 pretty quick.

Unfortunately, no warranty support for aftermarket S/C. If anything goes wrong with the engine it'll be pretty easy to blame, and prove within a reasonable doubt, that it was the S/C's fault.

Right. I want the TRD because of its reliability, cost, and curve. Not that my truck is in warranty anymore... or that I'll have a warranty when I put a used supercharger on a 2012 in a few years, but I still want the factory one. Not to mention it looks sa-weeet under the hood!

Sterdog I know I keep pinning you in random threads but what makes you choose the Tacoma over the supercharged tundra? It's a whale... but 10 lbs per horse ain't no joke. I'm guessing the answer is off road and lifestyle.

Yeah that's true too, but I bet that wont stop crazed modder's from putting one on. I've never been a super charger fan myself. I think they have a tendency to shorten engine life, but a lot of people will disagree.

    Look at my signature.

Tundra gets 13 mpg on a good day. With S/C that gets even worse.

They also pulled the S/C from Canada on the Tundra a few years ago due to reliability issues.

I also enjoy going offroad. Tundra is simply too wide. I prefer F150 TBH over Tundra, and that's just from personal experience.

I'd never buy a Tundra for personal use. Maybe business use because it is reliable, but for use around town and in the field it doesn't do anything special for me. If I wanted that sort of power I'd throw a Roush kit on an F150. Same sort of power with an extra 800 lbs shed on the DC model.

TRD S/C > Aftermarket turbo in general for reliability.

I get that point and I agree, but I think it's more the fact that you will put more stress on your engine more often since you have the power. The induction itself may not harm the engine (Though intuitively it seems like it would, so maybe someone else could clarify for me) but the increased frequency of mashing the pedal would. I am going to run a compression test on my engine before finalizing the decision to charge it. But regardless I want to buy a newer model (not 2015+) and charge that one day if I don't buy a 3rd gen.
I was on mobile when I asked but yes I actually think of your signature frequently because it's pretty funny and true.
But honestly it isn't like you're hitting higher than 20 with the Taco. But yes I understand.
Reliability issues? Like what? Why shouldn't this concern Tacoma drivers?
I get what you're saying, but if your goal isn't to go that fast and you say you'd sooner put a roush kit on an F150, what exactly is your goal with the Taco? You say you have 300 to the wheels and could get more, so aren't you trying to attain that kind of speed? I feel like I would, in your truck.

    http://www.tundratalk.net/forums/tu...ota-canada-stop-sales-trd-supercharger-2.html

My source, who works at a Toyota dealer in Calgary area, said that people were blowing up the TRD S/C on the Tundra because it was too much power for the 5.7 L when it was cold outside. I guess about 1 in 3 trucks were grenading at one point and Toyota Canada said enough is enough. The 1GR-FE can easily handle the cold and boost it would seem because I have yet to read of someone blowing a motor with the TRD S/C while on warranty even up here.

It's not about becoming a Corvette with a box for me. If it was I would of went for a custom turbo. I like the feeling of the S/C. To me it feels more like a V8 half ton now rather than a bit under powered. Call it personal preference but I enjoy passing without worrying about running out of room on undivided highways. Offroad I also find it makes a huge difference on hilly terrain. The truck doesn't seem to struggle on any grade with that extra torque. Even on road it rarely hunts uphill where I found stock the 1GF-RE liked to go all the way back to third on even slight grades.

Ah I understand, thanks for pulling that up for me. +1 for the 1GR-FE! Thanks also for the responses and I'll PM you to keep the thread on topic.

I was more referencing that it wasn't from Toyota directly (website wise) because I know some freak out at that

    EDIT
