Just ordered a set of 5 @ 265/75/16 load range E. All tires are expensive at this point, but i just missed the $100 rebate general was offering. Been wanting these tires for some time, i just had to work out suspension, and a bunch of other stuff before i committed. Had some 285 75 16’s atturo MT that were on the RAY10’s when i bought them. They rub like mad even with the lift. Not interested in the cab mount chop nor clearancing the pinch weld and flares. Just ready to drive this thing.

Not a first gen thread, but I got my set at 280k and Im at 340k. Its a single cab, 4cyl but I do plenty of hard driving and lots of gravel and rocks. Ive still got ~1/4 tread left.

    Tire size: 235/85/16
    Load range: E

    Yes, its an old thread.

I posted this review in my build thread a bit ago but I think it might would useful to cross-post here as well…

I figure since I just had an alignment and road force balance done, now would be a good time to write a little 30K mile review of my General Grabber A/Tx tires.

The short and sweet of it: I love these tires. General bills them as a Hybrid tire, so it’s in between an all terrain and a mud tire (hence the “x” in the name). I have recently been doing tire research again because I’ve been debating going up to a 33” tire. I have pretty much exclusively looking at hybrid tires and I have noticed that, at least in my research, the Grabber is the only hybrid tire with the 3PMS rating

Apparently all of the Kenda Klever R/T’s qualified for the 3PMS rating, with the exception of one single size, so Kenda decided to keep the rating off the entire line of tires. Gotta give credit where credit is due.

Anyway, back to the Grabbers. These tires have been amazing in all conditions and at this point, I will probably be buying a second set when these wear out. If they ever wear out. Below are my thoughts in some various conditions:

    Dry Pavement:

Absolutely phenomenal. 10/10. I still forget driving out of the tire shop 30K miles ago after I had them mounted. I was amazing at the difference in on-road handling from the stock Toyo highway tires. They grip so well, the truck feels much more stable and planted.

    Wet pavement:

Again, 10/10. These tires have extremely deep and frequent sipes, so the wet and winter handling is exceptional. I have never had them break loose in rainy driving and I have done extended highway drives in horrendous downpours. I always felt very safe and planted on the road even at 60+ MPH in the rain.

    Mud:

I don’t do a ton of stuff in the mud, but the driving I have done in mud these have been great.

    Sand:

When aired down properly, 10/10 again. I drove through some really deep and loose sand last year in the outer banks and these got me through without getting stuck.

    Ice and Snow:

I can’t really speak to these conditions as I have only had these tires through one winter and it was a very mild winter.

    Dirt/Gravel/Rocks:

(Not rock crawling rocks, but trails with frequent small to medium size rocks).

Again, exceptional. This is the majority of my offroad driving and these things hook up like champions. I have never been stuck although I do stay within my comfort zone on the trails and I don’t do any rock crawling obviously.

    Road noise:

At this point, 7/10 4/10…See update at end of this post.

My previous thoughts before the tires hit 30K: They were super quiet but recently they have gotten a bit louder. Still not as loud as the Yokohama g003 mud terrains I used to have. Although they are a bit noisy nowadays, they are silky smooth on the road. There has been a tiny bit of uneven wear (see post above) but that is probably due to all the rock and gravel these tires have seen. They still ride smooth as silk on the roadway, even at 30K miles.

Needless to say, I will very likely be buying these again. The only reason I would get a different set of tires in the future is just to give something different a try. If anyone has any questions let me know! I know I missed a lot of stuff but just wanted to give some general opinions because I don’t see many reviews of the Grabber ATXs.

I would guess based on the current treadwear that I will easily get 65K miles out of these. They do come with a 60K mile warranty on top of the 3PMS rating. What else could you ask for in a tire?

I think it’s the perfect tire for someone like me who does a massive amount of highway driving and also a lot of trail riding.

Some pictures of what the siping, tread pattern and tread depth look like at 30K miles:

    [IMG][IMG][IMG]

As you can see, there is still a massive amount of depth left in the siping as well as the tread. Much better than some tires that have very shallow sipes that disappear after a short period of time.

    Hope this helps!

Edit: The road noise between 30-40mph is stupid loud now, for some reason. Louder than the Yokohama mud terrains I used to run. These are road force balanced and regularly aligned, so I’m not sure what is causing the noise besides the slight uneven wear. At highway speeds they are still fine in terms of noise. I have started to notice they wander a little bit on the highway. I just reduced the PSI from about 40 to 36, so we’ll see if that helps.

Quick update to my previous post…these tires are back to 7/10 for me. I’m on a trip at the moment and have put a little over 1,500 additional miles on the Grabbers in the last week. This set has close to 40K on them now.

It seems like the deafening road noise between 30mph-40mph has mostly gone away and it’s down to a more tolerable hum.

I think the cross rotation of the tires may be working to even out the uneven wear. If this keeps up, I’ll likely keep these until the tread wears down instead of getting new rubber like I was planning.

I wouldn’t rule out getting another set next, I still maintain that they have preformed exceptionally well in every condition possible (on and off-road). My only single complaint has been the road noise which has been due to uneven wear.

All 4 tires are at 11/32nds with 42K miles on them. They came with 16/32nds.

If my math is correct, I’ve only lost 5/32nds of tread in 42K miles. WOW.
