General opinions on Ceramic Coating/Paint Protection Film in PNW

I know there are a ton of other threads on this very topic but I was looking to get opinions on ceramic coating and PPF based on Tacoma owners in the Pacific Northwest. Given the unique weather we have here, I think the opinions from someone here vs. someone int he Northeast for example would vary significantly.

I know ceramic doesn't have protective properties for road rash and such but I'm thinking PPF might considering its wet for most of the year. I'm sure the trail conditions and variety here make a difference too.

After a month, the rain still acts like it can't get off of that truck fast enough.
And the dirt, pollen, bird doodle, etc. just rinses off with water.
I am very pleased with this product!

 

I just did a cleaning, clay-bar and ceramic coat on my truck about 2 weeks ago. Washed it twice and still holding up. I researched the interweb and Shine Armour was on all the top reviews.

 

Might have to give this a shot - the pollen is killing me

 

This makes me curious as I just did my first real detail (dealers "wash" job pre-delivery wasn't really up to my standards and finlly had some free time) But Do you think this I'd need to strip off my recent carnauba wax job prior to putting some of this lovely stuff on? I know an eventual clay baring is in order but I'm thinking that the current layer of wax on the ol girl might prevent this from adhering properly.

Hey guys. None of these are ceramic coating. They say "ceramic" in their names, but none of it is actual ceramic coating. Ceramic coating lasts years, not months. It's essentially a semi-permanent clear coat. Since it's basically a clear coat, you have to strip your paint of any glaze, wax or sealant on it. Then you should do a paint correction with compound and a finishing polish. Any imperfections underneath the ceramic coat will remain in place until you remove the coating by either compounding or wet sanding. Modesta is a professional line you can't buy your self, but there are other DIY kits are great such as gtechniq.

If you don't have a DA polisher, pads, etc, I wouldn't try to do ceramic coating on your own and let the professionals do it. Here's a good example at paint correction and ceramic coating.

If you aren't heavily wheeling your truck and getting deep pinstripes, I'd definitely get ceramic coating.

I would definitely remove any old wax. You want to ceramic coat the actual paint finish for the best and longer lasting results. Any auto psrts store should carry a spray on wax remover.

 

Diluted isopropyl alcohol (IPA) or rubbing alcohol wipe down will remove wax/oils from polish, much cheaper than anything from the store.
