Reese tow ready interchangable ball system. Makes ball changes about 15 seconds or less. Push in the top pin to push the balls outward to lock ball in place. Then turn 1/4 turn to lock the pin. Removal the reverse. Been using them for 15 years or so and only had one issue. I had no need to change balls and never needed to change tongues for a long while. Balls rusted into place and wouldn't remove. So I now grease them and use a ball cover when not in use and remove the tongue when nessecary. I have about 6 tongues in different heights and 3 have this system including my Kubota. I would never go back to stationary single ball setups. I have considered the tongue in post #4 but all of my trailers are the same height and only the tow vehicle height has changed over the years so if anything I move the adapt a ball to a different tongue and leave it there until my next vehicle change. My flatbed and my enclosed have different ball sizes.

Attached to my latest tongue with guard to prevent hitting your bumper. Also has safety chain hooks to keep them from dragging.

Tow pkg and you are asking about hitch. I am confused. Are you taking about the tongue (which the ball mounts to) which goes into the hitch or the hitch itself?

triball hitch does about everything i would need a hitch to do(reese #45325). for the occasional recovery tow, i put my rope into the receiver and use the hitch pin to secure it

Red locktite? As in the stuff that needs a torch to undo?

Maybe I'm misremembering but I thought in recovery you want to be able to undo the shackle to get the strap eye into it?

That or keep the shackle in your recovery bag during day to day pavement driving, installing it when heading offroad.

I like that, any more info on it.

OP I found that with my 09, I had the Uhaul set up and pretty much left it in, however, it rusted, not bad enough that it didn't work, but enough that with my new truck I am keeping the hitch under the back seat unless needed. I do want to get a cover and have wondered if there is something I should do to prevent the receiver from rusting.image.jpg

It is still relatively easy to take off with my 12" crescent wrench that I have in the truck. I use chain more than strap after I towed a Suburban and the guy didnt understand using his brakes and ran over my strap causing it to get severely frayed.
If I need to remove the shackle, I flip it over in the receiver so when I turn the bolt, the shackle jams against the bottom of the reciever which allows me to torque on it with the wrench.

Wow. One of us has been using a shackle wrong. I keep mine in the truck unless its in use. When it is in use i barely go finger tight on the bolt because ive had em tighten in use that took a torch to loosen. Off to do homework, definitely not trying to kill anyone with a 1000mph shackle!

You have your ways and your reasons, I have mine. Doesn't mean either one is wrong. Never seen a 1000mph shackle. Was that on mythbusters on the rocket sled?

When said shackle is between 2 trucks being used for recovery and has failure level loads on it id be willing to bet 1000mph is possible. Which is what i try to avoid.

Ever seen a winch cable break? I did once. Freaking terrifying

Had a 55k winch snap a cable once. It was kinda energetic.
