Genuine 5w30 Toyota motor oil advice

Hello all,

I have a 2001 Tacoma Prerunner 2.7L with 215,000 miles.Runs great. Im debating wether or not to buy a large amount of oil for my truck, as I plan to have it for at least the next 15 years, if not longer. My question is does anyone have any experience with the genuine Toyota 5w30 conventional motor oil? Would you recommend it over another conventional oil?

Ive always ran Chevron conventional 5w30 oil in it with OEM Toyota Filters, and even when its time for an oil change my oil still looks really clean. I personally prefer to do more frequent oil changes, Like every 3,000 miles, So im not really interested in going synthetic.

Just wanted your opinions on the OEM oil Vs. Chevron supreme oil. The OEM oil seems to be cheaper than the Chevron right now and I didn't know how it compared.

Oil is oil if it meets the same standards.

 

Toyota oil is made by Mobil. When I ordered OEM Mercedes-Benz oil for my E320, it literally comes in a Mobil 1 can with a Mercedes sticker on it.

Oil is oil. Just match the Viscosity.

Look, just buy the oil that fits your budget. Whatever is on sale. People get 300k miles out of their engines with walmart oil.

Brand doesn't matter. You already do the most important thing which is to just change it regularly. 3k is pretty overkill though.

 

There’s an article that compares and ranks different oils using wear test. Though it’s branded Mobil 1 the additives in Mobil 1 advanced full synthetic vs Mobil 1 extended vs the additive in the Mobil Toyota blend ranked different. It’s been a while,, but regular Mobil 1 full synthetic tested the best like 19 out 500 other oils. I stick with that plus it’s not expensive at Walmart .

The engineer did stress the number one thing is change intervals.

 

Just be careful if you want true conventional. Brands like Castrol, Valvoline, and Napa (made by Valvoline) no longer offer it in 5w-30. Its all labeled "semi synthetic" now.

Ive switched to Pennzoil as its all I can find locally that is middle of the road priced, and labeled as conventional.

 

There are differences between brands. Toyota oil is highly rated. Go to bobistheoilguy forums

 

Overpriced. Go with whatever brand floats your boat.

Wal-Mart has the best oil prices 99% of the time.

I use Pennzoil Ultra synthetic in all of my small equipment and my Tacoma. I have 2 vehicles with lifetime warrants so i'm forced to use their (dealer) only synthetic option with is Mobil and I am not a Mobil fan at all. I usually use Castrol conventional or Pennzoil conventional in my Honda since it has almost 200k and has had conventional its whole life.
Dealer filters for 2 cars. Honda I only use Bosch on and i'll probably use Bosch when I change the Tacomas oil for the first time. I've used Fram in the past without issue on other vehicles.
