It sounds sketch AF, but I used a thick coat of black plasti dip as a primer (since not a whole lot sticks to chrome), then color matched several coats with an aerosol from a body shop. Clear coat on top of it all. It’s held up for quite a few years now.

For a little more than $400, this might be the option I go with as a more permanent solution so I don't have to repaint it myself over and over again. I called Line-x and they quoted me about $400 also. If I can find a cheap MGM rear local then that would be great but I don't see that happening anytime soon. The Amazon bumper is cheap, looks decent, and if I need to pull something I'll just use the factory hitch.

I see you have an MGM. I did a specialty color (I think it was called anthracite? I can check on that) of plasti-dip as a quick fix a few years ago, and it matched almost perfectly and has worked so well I haven't even thought about changing it. I had someone back into me in a parking deck that scraped some of it off, but it only took a few min to prep and respray that small area (with cans I had left over) and it was right back to normal. I have been more than satisfied with it, although if an MGM bumper popped up somewhere for decent I would probably make the change.

That looks sweet. Yeah send me the color you used. Did you take them off or tape it off and spray it while still on the truck?

I'm not sure about the carid bumpershellz. I looked and it looks like there isn't an option to pick the texture or color, plus the picture they have is real glossy. I'd order from the link I provided for sure. These fit so well, that I didn't even use the double sided tape, I just popped them under the lip of the bumper and reinstalled the 3 clips on the bottom. They ain't goin' nowhere!

@Brian422 has plastidipped his rear bumper and it has held up great, despite going offroading a ton in the last few months!

Bumpershellz is the Ecoological brand, Carid is just the retailer... So its the same product, brand, and everything. Just weird that the options don't match.

That looks pretty good. What all did you have to do prep work related or did you just go at it full throttle haha.

I didn't take the whole bumper off. I took the black plastic cover pieces off (top of bumper, above hitch, tag lights) and the tag off, then wiped down with cleaner, taped up newspaper and sprayed. The kit I got (I did the wheels too) came with a cloth and some sort of cleaner, its probably just rubbing alcohol. I probably did 4-6 light coats, it doesn't take too long because the dry time in between coats wasn't very long. I think the website has exact instructions.

I am almost positive it was this color, but I can double check the cans when I get home today: https://www.dipyourcar.com/collecti...ts/anthracite-grey-aerosol?variant=5631654340

Yes, please check on the color for us. I think this is the most affordable option so far that still looks good. Did you do the front chrome grills surround also?

+1 on these bumper caps.. got the gloss black for mine (matched my truck well). They fit over the chrome exactly and have been a great addition..
Worth the money to me ..Do it!

No, I just bought a sport surround that was color-matched from Camelbak Toyota and then sold my chrome one on ebay. That made it pretty cost effective, I saved the box and packaging from the new one to ship the old one.

How much were you able to sell your chrome one for?

Honestly cannot remember, it has been a while. I checked my ebay account but it doesn't list sales that far back apparently. If I had to guess I would say $140 or so.
