Yup. Had to cut up my stocker. Not sure how long I’ll be in this Taco. Could be a week. Could be 10+ yrs. Just would like to go ahead a be prepared to swap it back to stock at any time. And I’m a bit indecisive.

Speaking of swapping things and my indecisiveness. I’ve pretty well decided the Fox suspension I just installed is gonna be pulled soon if anyone wants a low mileage Fox kit and UCA. Price will be pretty reasonable.

Going back to stock suspension? Why? What happened?

 

Couple of reasons. One being it netted more lift than I want. I’m short at 5’7”
I’ll have to pull the coilovers to reduce the preload (which isn’t much to begin with).
Second being I’m unsure on how long I’ll keep the truck.

I’ll likely put my Bilstien pro setup back on. It’s pretty worn so I may toss on a mild budget lift.

Absolutely nothing wrong. Hell it’s a much more plush drive now vs the Bilsteins. I’m about 70% decided I’ll go to a 4th gen taco or 3rd gen Tundra in the not too distant future. Figure I’ll sell the Fox kit vs wasting it on a trade later. And as mentioned above, no matter what I have to uninstall/reinstall to lower the front end some.

 

That’s suck. You mentioned that it took you all day to do the suspension and now have to do it again. I too dread the day that I have to revert back to stock. I want to get the 4th gen Pro but don’t want to pull the trigger on the first year model. Will have to be 1-2 years down the road. I have driven a couple of new Tundra as rental car and I am not that impressed with them. Not enough for me to buy one.

 

Haha yea the timing sucks fo sho. My thoughts are that I can likely get at least some of my money back by selling the suspension now vs leaving it on and getting zero back down the line. My old setup was haggered, but not trashed, and it meets my needs. Just doesn’t look as nice doing it.

I really don’t plan to sell/trade/buy super soon. Not a fan a buying first year production models. Plus I’d like to get that mud slide color (basically a newer quicksand) on a non-Pro trim. That is if I can be patient enough and Toyota follows that methodology of previous Pro colors.

It’s odd how perceptions can change. My view on the 4th gen went from meh to oh yea effectively overnight after seeing a few in person. Same thing happened to me with the 3rd gen. Was completely content with my 2nd, then something changed for me and 6 months later I owned a turd.

Verdict is still out for me on the Tundra. I don’t love it, but I don’t hate it. Similarly I don’t need a full-size. The interior space and rear seat venting would be nice with 2 kids (still in car seats) and dog/s. The dern 4th gen price is so close to a Tundy now, why not to cross shop? I may renting one from the local dealership the next time I load the fam up to go visit my parents in north GA. Be a good real world test drive before investing in one.

 

So real talk, now knowing you have stop leak crap gumming up your system and not sure what else it will attach to later (heater core, etc) is this your motivation to return to stock and move on to something else haha?

 

I think the stop leak has done any gumming it’s gonna do. I’d say between the dealer performed system flush and the fact that 90% of the stop leak I added was added to the reserve tank (see my thread in the 3rd gen section, I removed a lot of gunk) and not the radiator, there’s minimal likelihood of heater core, thermostat, etc. degradation.

I’m not seeing any additional leaking, operating temps are normal and the heat/AC are working as they should. If/when I sell/trade, I’ll install the new radiator since I have it.

Is this THE reason I’m entertaining a future sale, not at all lol. Moreso a line item on a pro/cons list.
