Go with a group (or least one other truck) and have good, solid front and rear recovery (tow) points. Food, water and any special medical supplies you might need in an emergency. Think about what you may need to survive for a day or two if you get stuck.

Great info! I used to camp and hunt a bit, so I've got how to take care of personal comfort/safety/eating/sleeping. On the truck, I've got a BA Hiline front bumper and Smittybilt X20 in the garage to install when I get a minute. For the rear, I'm not looking at doing a full bumper yet. Maybe something like this? https://nytop.store/toyota-tacoma-accessories-store/p/2016-2023-toyota-tacoma-rear-recovery-points or even just this? https://a.co/d/du9UnFE . I'm looking at Keegan kinetic snatch rope and soft shackles, X-bull recovery tracks. Possibly a VIAIR 88p at some point, though the Georgia Traverse may not need airing up and down? The info that got overwhelming was the moment I looked into high lift jacks...lol. Needed not needed....kill you the instant you touch one haha.

Get the hitch receiver recovery point you have there from Amazon, those nytop recovery points are unneccessary and designed primarily to separate a fool from their money.

Thanks that’s appreciated. Being a former boat and Harley owner, I’m not interested in connecting my bank account directly to the aftermarket suppliers

Your rear receiver is a good recovery point. Adding the receiver shackle mount is a good idea. Make sure you buy a quality one - there are cheap off-shore imitations out there. Some of the imitations are not as strong/stout as they may claim.

An air compressor, along with tire plugs, is a good idea. We did air down part way on the traverse. Maybe not 100% necessary, but definitely a good idea.

Tires are really important as well. A moderately (or more) aggressive all terrain.

Hi-Lift jack is great when you need it, albeit somewhat dangerous to use. Make sure you know how to use it, and have proper lift points on your truck. I have used mine, but don't carry it as much any more. A good bottle jack is almost as useful.

I’m beginning to see that When you’re researching whether you ‘need’ a Blue Sea Systems aux fuse panel and power cutoff switch before planning to install a 20” light panel… yeah it’s gonna be $$$

I’m running the Goodyear Wrangler Territory ATs that were on it when I bought it. They’re pretty much new and wanted to wear ‘em out before upgrading. Does that limit my off-roading possibilities?

All my rigs are purpose built. From crawling to camping. I also enjoy a nice stock truck for what that’s worth. Toyota’s are the jam!
Just ask people on here before you buy. There are a lot of extra parts people have on here brutha, that you can get for a smoking price :)

Not really. I was really saying you don't want a street tire. Yours isn't that aggressive for an AT, but it's not a purely street tire, either. Just realize that it will clog up with mud faster than some tires, and will be better on rock than some tires.

Don't let the tires limit your getting out there.

Excellent. The only off-road experience I have is driving my ‘77 Corolla up the fire trail to the top of Saddleback Mountain in SoCal with some friends and ‘enhancements’ back in the day

What part of SoCal? I used to live in Thousand Oaks. We drove some of the fire roads (at night, hoping to not get caught). Most of my fire road riding was on a mountain bike.

You don't need anything special. Just get out and do some trails. You'll figure out the "nice to haves" while you are out there.

The rear shackle and a recovery (not tow) rope is a good starting point.

These trucks are amazingly capable in their stock form.

Do you have coordinates for the spots near the water? Can carry over to a PM if you don't want to post them publicly, if not completely understand :hattip:
