Does anyone know if the chemistry is compatible?

I have extra German coolant left over. Pink G13.
Old Toyota dealer gave a good price. New Toyota dealer does not.
    Not interested in bending over.

It was $12. Now it's somehow over $20. There is no legitimate reason.

Thinking of putting this G13 in. I just don't know how well the chemistry would play.

Worst case scenario going to research/shop around see if I can find something "spec" anywhere else such as Zerex from WalMart or something.

Technically, Tacoma coolant is "red". But in real life it also looks pink. Both come pre-diluted 50/50.

Oh goodie gumdrops, a Friday thread about fluids!

Short answer: Just use the correct Toyota/Asian pink coolant. Difference in cost of like a cheeseburger, fer cripes sake stop being a cheap ass and just use the right stuff.

Long answer: Same as above but there is some science to it too. Go read Bob Is The Oil Guy for differences on Si-OAT (VW) vs P-OAT (Toyota) and just know our “Japanese” motors are more happy sticking with the correct fluid. And again stop being cheap. An extra $20 for something that will last 100k intervals is inconsequential. Stop being cheap.

I mean you're not wrong. Like I said gonna see if I can find it for a normal price

that doesn't involve driving 1hr to pay $100 for a jug of milk at "dealer"

just didn't know if coolant is coolant. Oil kind of is. I run random oil in my truck all the time no problem.
I'd imagine aluminum is aluminum, and anti corrosion coolant is anti corrosion coolant, but who knows.

Better safe than sorry does come into play for sure, don't want to learn such a lesson the hard way

Use the right stuff, oriley auto parts/walmart etc have the proper Zerex Red Asian 50/50 coolant all day long without having to question will it work.

Yup it used to be 12$, and now its 20... you can thank 81M people for that and the "strong economy" we have. #BuildBackBetter *rollseyes*

You could mix a bit of each in a closed container and let it sit for a week to see what happens. Still no guarantee though.

It's dealer mark up. It varies widely based on the dealer. Every dealer is run differently.

One dealer for one brand will take a $300 part and mark it up to $500.
Another dealer 20 miles north will mark the same part up, same brand, to $700.

    what regular green stuff?
I've always heard green is bad.

But hey if it works it works.

And, probably another factor is doing an entire flush, versus mixing if something is reverse fluid incompatible

That is a good idea. I could do that. It might settle in different layers without an engine pumping it.

But yeah I get the above posts. A lot simpler to just stick to the FSM and find the right price.

Color doesn't mean anything anymore. It is just a dye that manufacturers use to distinguish their coolant from others. Your Toyota/Lexus manual states to use Toyota coolant or “a similar high quality ethylene glycol based non-silicate, non-amine, non-nitrite, and non- borate coolant”. An affordable antifreeze I have found that meets this criteria, verbatimly, is Walmart’s SuperTech antifreeze. I have been using it since my first Toyota vehicle - now my mom’s 98 Sienna. That being said, if you are changing brands, always flush out as much of the old coolant as you can.

G13 is said to be bad for water pumps and seals in Toyotas: https://bobistheoilguy.com/forums/threads/g13-coolant-in-toyota.349441/
