Thread's not too old to revive...

Just got LICENSED TODAAAAY!! 33/35. Some of those ham folks are frickin' weird, though. No offense, 'cause I am, too, but most were a whole different ball of weird.

Now to troll all you ham operators' radios...

 

Agreed. They are all old too. Lol. The next youngest one in the room when I took my test had to be about 55.

 

^^Haaa! Yes!!! The ham group had an avg age of 65. Was surprised at having abt 8 other people testing there. They charged $15. How much was yours? How long does it take to show up on the FCC list?

 

I think mine was about the same price. Took about a week to show up.

 

Took my technician test on June 10th and passed. Call sign showed up on the website last Thursday.

 

So I am getting some feedback when I key out on certain frequencies. How do I fix this?

It's a loud buzzing sound. It has only done it on 2 frequencies and it only comes out of one of my stereo speakers, not the external speaker that is hooked up to the Yaesu 8800.

 

On the Yaesu 8800, does anybody know how to copy the same frequencies between the left band to the right band and vice versa? I dont want to have to go through and program 100 channels for each side.

 

I bought a USB cable and the FTB-8800 software available from here. Haven't gotten a chance to try it out yet, but it allows you to manage your radio's memory stuff on the computer which is much easier than the onboard memory management system.

As far as I know, that's the only way to do it. I am either in Houston or Stillwater OK, so my right band is Houston frequencies and my left band Stillwater frequencies. Pretty handy!

And yeah, the hams at my testing center were all over 60... it was me (I'm a 21 year old college student), two nerdy teenagers, their mother, and the old dudes. Friendly group though, helpful and I have no complaints.

 

passed the test for the tech class license today..easy stuff

gotta say tho, the volunteer staff people that administered the test are a bunch of anal tightwads with no sense of humor what so ever lmao
