Hi All... after reading lots on the subject of spacers vs 5100's I decided on the 5100's for the front. I'm thinking on getting new rims (17 inches) what max tire size can i fit with 5100's at 2 inches lift with no trimming? I do recall seeing the mention of the max size of tire with 5100's will be 265/75/16 or 265/70/17... just want to confirm. Want to have it all done on one shot... so I will be broke for the next 6 moths.

Also a friend recommended a local mechanic that will do it for $250 but he cannot do the alignment. Is that reasonable?

This will be my first mod on the truck... looking forward to it.
    Thank you all!

The 265/75r16 are a stock tire size offered by Toyota on the second gen and the 265/70r17 are the same size with a larger wheel. So yes they will fit with the extra 2 inches up front. It will just help so you don't hit when at full flex, plus the billies are much better than stock.

$250 installed for fronts only without alignment is a rip off. It's a 40 minute job with good tools and know how. It's an hour and a half if you only have half a clue what you're doing and have basic hand tools and your driveway.

Amen to that, a shop wanted to charge my parents $150 for a job on their car that I did in fifteen minutes with a 10mm socket wrench.

265 75 16 I think is basically a 32 (31.9 I think) tire and can fit with no lift at all. I would think a 33 should fit fine at 2" depending on the width you may have to trim a bit inside the finder or do a wheel spacer

    wrong.

245/75R16 265/70R16 and 265/65R17 are the stock sizes (they are all pretty much the same diameter).

265/75R16 or 265/70R17's are the biggest you can go and be assured you are not going to rub.

you MIGHT be able to fit 255/85R16's

You will NOT be able to fit 285/75R16's without some trimming etc.

Thanks for the sound advise... I will shop around more then for a mechanic... I am handy but not sure I want to mess with this... I might recruit a good friend that does work on his own and we can team up.

Not really looking to trim... so I guess the right size would be 265/70/17

OP, those tire sizes will fit under a stock suspension truck with no lift or spacers. That's what I'm getting installed next Monday. 5100's and 265/70/17 BFG K02's on stock sport rims.

Yeah I got 245/75R16 on my truck and they suck... they are street tires if you ask me. so that made me look into the leveling to fit a bigger tire. so one more confirmation that the tire/rim size to upgrade to will be 265/70R17

    Yes.

That's the largest fit on stock height, that's the largest fit on 3" lift with trimming.

You can go taller and narrower, but can't go taller and wider.

yeah, however I read that they rub on stock suspension... so they suggest the level and like you... they suggest to do 5100's and 265/70/17. Share the pics!! Because I was looking at the same tire too and congratulations!

So I went ahead and did the job with two of my frinds... struts installed and the truck is leveled as I want... only one problem and I hope you or anyone else can point me the right direction.

On my way to the shop to get the alignment (it was all over the place after the install of the 5100s) the anti slip ligh came on and it has not come off since. I checked the wiring and it is fine. The guy at the shop said he could not reset it with he computer and that there were no faulty error codes.

    1466948111656-39243311.jpg

I'm pretty much now resigned to go to the dealership... not my favorite option as I know they are going to blame it on the struts. I saw some posts about this and they all end up in "went to the dealership". So I may have to do the same.

Thanks for the help... I will post pics later of the job after the tires and rims are installed.

what setting did you use on the 5100s? I'm going higher in the front and the rear with an extra leaf and 5100s

PhotoGrid_1466954657110.jpg I did 1.75... but my goal was to level the truck... with that setting I accomplished that. I made no changes to the back... so adding a leaf might require a different setting.
