Getting a 2016 but would like to see improvements.

Odd thing about the Tacoma is the hood prop. I saw a 1953 Chevy truck it had clock springs on the hood hinges so it lifted the hood and kept it in place. A 1953 Chevy truck, but the Tacoma you still have to boost the hood up and prop it in place. That would be about a $5 improvement.

was hoping to see what the 2016 Ridgelines look like but they are not coming out until next year.

So I'm going with the 2016 Tacoma Off Road 4x4.
My plan is to keep it for two years and then decide on a Ridgeline or another Tacoma in 2018.

Changes I would like to see on the 2016 Tacoma:
#1. The truck bed trunk is nice to have (have one on the Ridgeline) great to put gear in. Is this some patent that only Honda can have?
2. Would be nice to be able to place a sheet of plywood (4'x8') in the bed with out the wheel wells getting in the way. (this is not an issue with the Ridgeline)
3. Multiple tie down cleats (front , back and side of truck bed (again found on Ridgeline)
4. would like to see leather seats and electric positioning as an option on the off road.
5. on the crew cab would like to have rear AC and charger port for cell phones in the back. (again this is in my 2007 Ridgeline)

The one thing I hated about the Ridgeline was the non-truck look of it

I am going to get a Tacoma so I'll give it a try. What are the chances of any of the 5 request getting put into a future Tacoma Model?

Finally, If I'm ordering the new Tacoma in a month or two, will some of the minor issues (noise, hood vibration, ect) that have been reported get corrected as they continue to make the trucks or will they only get corrected in next years model?

Leather comes with the limited model. You can have the dealer put leather in the truck when it arrives.

to OP, I would wait until the Honda reveal in Jan-2016 on the new 2017 ridgeline (fall of 2016 release) and then decide on getting a Tacoma or Ridgeline.

comparing a unibody truck to a bof truck is not a fair comparsion. the unibody is geared more toward comfort than bof vehicle.

true, I will be using it 90% of the time driving to work, hauling the kids and family around.
Then 10% of the time I'll be out on the ranch needing the 4 wheel drive.
For me, I need 1 vehicle to do every thing.
If I had a car for traveling to work and then a separate for off roading then I would be a little less concerned with some of my expectations.

Ridgelines are good, as most Hondas are. My wife has a 2007 Pilot and lets be honest, the Ridgeline is a Pilot; nothing more, nothing less (except the roof in the back). As good as the Pilot has been for us, the right person is driving it, my wife, just say-in!!!
#1 The "bed trunk" in your Ridgeline is a third row seat in the Pilot. It is a cool idea, but I'd rather have a larger fuel tank.
#2 If you look at the wheel wells in the bed of a Tacoma, you'll notice they're flat. You should also note the square notches on each side of the bed. Place a 3/4" x 6" box tube or a piece of wood across those notches and you can lay 4x8 anything with no problem (it helps if you get the long bed). I just carried 15 sheets of 3/4" 4x8 plywood with no problem!
#3 My long bed OR came with 4 tie downs.
#4 You can buy Katzkin custom leather seats for the double cab for $595 (installation is extra).
#5 That would be nice, but certainly wouldn't be the deciding factor for me buying a truck.
Comparing the Tacoma to the Ridgeline is like comparing a Corvette to a Mazda Miata.
