Yea, This is my first manual I've owned...driven several others...obviously this isn't a sports car, its a truck...but a Hurst Core quick shifter really made shifting a lot faster and funner. A supercharger and associated performance accessories is a must IMHO for a 6 speed :D

Best way to learn is to buy it and drive it. All you have to worry about is 1st gear, going uphill, from a stop. You get that down and you're set.

Or maybe some of us have driven enough vehicles with proper manual transmissions (and crappy transmissions) in them to know that the six speed in the Tacomas is not one of Toyota's high points. :bored:

The Toyota V6 6 speed manual is average at best. As VolcomTacoma suggested the TRD Quick Shift greatly improves the driving experience, I highly recommend the $400 upgrade. With that said, if you're going to get a company/commuting car soon and want the truck for personal enjoyment you should strongly consider a manual, just don't expect to me like a high performance sports car. I, like a good number of people on here find autos extremely boring, love my 6 speed and wouldn't get a Taco any other way.

TRD or Hurst or URD. They all have their differences...

Really wanted a 6 speed but wanted the longbed so getting used to driving my first automatic in years! I still use my WRX (manual) for work commuting right now so still get the manual itch relieved. Hard for me to drive without shifting, I notice myself wanting to push my left foot down on the non-existent clutch on my auto Tacoma a lot. :D Either way, good luck with your decision!

Ah, I'm just having a bit of fun.

    So far I like my 6sp mt. I have driven since the mid 80's, a series of mt's (early 70 Dodge 4sp,late70's Mitsubishi 5sp,97,03 & 09 5&6 sp Nissans.

The gas milage seems to be on par with my 03 Xterra so no major complaints although the transmission reminds me of some old trucks I drove that had a low gear & a separate 1st gear

Go with the manual transmission. I've owned a 2007 tacoma with an automatic and I currently own a 2015 tacoma with the 6sp manual. I like having full control of the vehicle when I drive and shifting when I want to shift...especially when having an aftermarket exhaust. It is true that 1st gear is a bit too short and the fuel economy isn't as good (1-2mpg) but overall I am completely happy with the manual transmission vs the automatic. Learning how to drive a manual is pretty easy.

I'm familiar with the TRD and URD, what are the pros and cons with the Hurst?

See is you can find a manual rental vehicle for a week, best to put the wear and tear of learning to use a clutch on another vehicle, rather then your truck.

I really like the manual transmissions in these trucks, and I think they'd be great to learn on.

However,I really wanna hear about this leather interior. Never heard of such a thing in one of these trucks.

Pretty sure its like the TRD only it brings the handle back 7" and closer to you about 2". Not sure of the cons yet, i know reverse is a bitch now, but supposedly all the quick shifters do that, and i hunt for gears a little bit sometimes. Shift to quick and go from 2nd to 5th lol

Are you rugged and tough as nails? Do you eat beans straight from the can? Do you have some dirt under your fingernails? Then you're ready to own a 6spd manual Tacoma! :p

6spd manual = notchy and Fun to drive. Just be used to a few extra clunks and rattles.

At the time I bought mine there were two manual trd sports in all of Seattle and Tacoma, mine and another dbl cab. They can be extremely rare.
