    Yes and no.

Yes, you should always carry your CHL, but "most" states honoring others only applies to a few states.
Florida, Nevada, and Oregon give you something like 36 states. A Texas permit does not give you Ohio.
South Carolina, Colorado, and Michigan do not recognize non-resident permits.
California, Illinois, and one or two others don't recognize ANY other state's permits.

Gun safe bolted down with some sort of lock on the firearm is your best bet.

Never leave it in a vehicle unattended...period.

Take gun safety lessons, you and the wife together.

Shoot together, she might be better than you, which might come in handy some day knowing that she can cover your ass!

I was brought up on this saying below and I'm not sure how it'll go over with the rest of the group, but here we go:

"Never point a gun at anyone unless you intend to shoot them, never shoot anyone unless you intend to kill them"

I wish you only the best...

when he goes to the chl class that would be disclosed.
in texas the way the law is written it almost not necessary to have a chl.
granted it cant be on your person when you leave the "castle" confinements but its doable. also if you get say a dwi and have chl its is big wammy. it only takes one two many etc.

And California doesn't allow even an unloaded handgun in a locking glove box.

PC12026 exemptions to PC12025 specifically state "Secure locking container other than the glove box or utility compartment"

Cops don't generally like to see a gun in the glove box when you are fishing around for your reg.

I cannot remember the brand and I'll check for pics, but it fits either under my seat or in my center console, and it has a cable that I can wrap around seat frame or anything that is pretty sturdy and it has a combination lock.

There is a company that makes a safe that is designed to fit perfectly in center cosole that I want to eventually buy...pretty pricey thought...like around $250 I think.

Gunvault makes a couple of small vehicle lock boxes that have a slot in the side and allow you to loop a cable around a seat post, but it's not bolted to the vehicle so it's easy to remove and carry with you, and satisfies the "secure locking container" requirement for those states that have that transportation requirement.

They have 3 models, one uses a wheel type combination lock, the other two are key locks. NV100 is smaller, around $30, NV200 is larger, around $35, and NV300 is the same as the 200 but with the combination lock for around $40.

They also have the larger "Micro" line, but they are getting into the $200-$400 range and are biometric.
I like the combination lock... no key to misplace, no batteries to worry about, and no concern that a static discharge can cause a problem.

I was actually thinking about buy a cheap 357 or 38 revolver to keep in the door of my truck. That way if it does get broke into I'm only a little bit of money but at the same time I have something that will fire at point blank range.
