So my truck is going in for a rust recall next week and it looks like they will take about a week to rip it apart and put on a fresh new frame. Is there anything I would be wise to replace while it’s apart? It’s basically stock other than a 3” spacer lift and has 225000km. Also, is the powder coating of the new frame sufficient for British Columbia’s salty winter roads? Cheers!

You are truly fortunate. I was screwed over here in Socal. The dealerships would not honor the class action. My truck came from the mid west.

LCA and ball joints came "with" my frame when I had it done. Along with brake and fuel lines, rear leaf springs (sperate recall, but done at the same time.) I added front CV joints and wheel bearings to the list for an extra 550.00. Well they had the truck the battery died, they put in a "yota" battery and tried to charge me 275.00 for it. I said put the old one in and jump it, I am on my way. They left it in and took it off the bill. But told me I don't get the 5 year replacement.......Oh well....

Very doubtful the new frame is powder coated. Just painted.

So no, you still need to add your own protection and regularly clean.

If your truck met all the parameters of the replacement, ie within expiration dates, registration locations (proof it had lived in salt country), and any inspection / treatment requirements that Toyota had implemented (all valid denial reasons if not compliant) then a call to Corporate would be next, followed by a call to a mad dog attorney.

I'm guessing it's because of where you live? As in 'we don't do salt here'? If you can prove years lived in salt country, even under another owner, give it a go again.

I got new LCA's cuz they come with the new frame. got new brake lines no charge. Bought new rear shocks and had them installed at no charge. they fixed a pinched wire that fixed my ABS light. That was cool and did not cost me much. Besides the new shocks, I had basically no out of pocket costs. Good luck.

Like everyone one said, new lower control arms were included when my frame was done & brakes lines, as well as any broken bolts/nuts. I would also take a look at your rubber cab mounts before you take your truck in. I had a head gasket issue that required the engine to be pulled so I saved a ton on labor getting that replaced at the same time.

X2 on the terrible intermediate steering shaft. My Tacoma drove sloppy, after it feels like a new truck.

Harden your bark, there are storms on the horizon.
I had new body mounts installed while the cab was off.

Another vote for replacing the Intermediate Steering shaft. I'd also replace the power steering rack (I decided mine was OK only to have to it fail 18 months later). Lastly I did have them replace all of the heater/radiator hoses.

As has already been stated, your new (and your old) frame is not powder coated. It is electrodeposition painted and the paint is not any different or better than the old frame. That said, it will not resist corrosion any better than the old one unless you do something to it yourself. You could apply any number of corrosion resistant coatings to it to address the issue, but one has to wonder if its worth it since the new frame will probably out last the rest of the truck.
