    Hey all-

New on here and haven't seemed to be able to find an answer to my question: What other work would you all recommend I have done while the Toyota dealership has my frame off?

I am part of the frame recall and Toyota will be doing a frame swap for me in the next few weeks. I've been waiting for the frame to arrive (been waiting for 6 weeks!) and my tech at the dealership told me to think about what else I would want done with the frame off. Soooo.....what types of work CAN be done easily that I wouldn't otherwise do unless the frame was off? I'm willing to spend SOME $$$, but I don't want to break the bank right now....

They sent me a letter AFTER I received a notification of a class action lawsuit. It's worth it to go to your dealership and have them check it, IMO

If it was me I would use the new frame as a bargaining chip and as soon as the new frame is finished,
    Trade it for new one!

They might, but I'm not sure I would trust them with it.....I've read a BIT about shackle flips, but can you explain what it does specifically? Do I need aftermarket shackles for this to work? If so, recommendations?

Lower control arms are included in the frame warranty. I would save your money for things Toyota won't cover. Mine should be done in a few days and here is what I had to buy that was not covered in the warranty.
    Body Bolts $15.43/ea x6 $92.58
    Body Bolts $13.74/ea x4 $54.96
    Body Bolts $10.70/ea x2 $21.40
    Fuel Tube $39.39
    Fuel Tube $50.92
    Fuel tube clip $1.77/ea x2 $3.54
    Clip $6.63/ea x4 $26.52
    Body Bushing $18.73/ea x2 $37.46
    Body Bushing $85.21/ea x4 $340.84
    Body Bushing $18.73/ea x2 $37.46
    cab bushing $18.73
    bumper bolts $3.45/ea x4 $13.80
Speed Sensors $162.60/ea x2 (the was a lot of rust/corrosion on the connectors making the unuseable)
    Engine mount insulator $120.48
    brake tube $9.99/ea x2 $19.98
Tow Hitch $335.00 (Rusted into several pieces)
    hitch hardware 3.45/ea x10 $34.50

    misc parts subtotal: $1792.76

    Parts updated while apart
    Front pads $61.60
    Front Rotors $88.97/ea x2 $177.94
    Front Calipers $138.72/ea x2 $277.44
    Moog UCA $92 x2 $184

    front brakes subtotal: $700.98

    Rear brake strut kit $97.61
    Rear brake drums $135.22/ea x2 $270.44
    Rear shoes $95.23
    rear wheel cylinders $65.74/ea x2 $131.48
    Rear brake spring kit $34.70
Rear brake spring kit no.2 $90.00

    Rear brake subtotal: $719.46

Upper and Lower radiator hoses $24.06/ea x2 $48.12

    Drive Belt $49.36

Overall I will be getting a lot of new parts and work done. The dealer worked with me to make a choice on most parts as to whether I wanted Toyota or aftermarket replacements.

Whoa whoa whoa!!!! They charged you to replace your frame??? It's a recall...how did they get away with that? And are those dealer prices for everything or some of it aftermarket?

This is some great information. I can't thank you enough. I'm interested to see what they say about warranty vs recall when I get it in there. I never would've agreed to paying anything out of pocket without knowing the EXACT cost so I know I didn't hear anything about $$$....my ears would've started burning!!

I had them install radiator hoses, all new ujoints and carrier bearing, upper control arms (low miles used UCAs from the classifieds), Used hitch from the classifieds and some other stuff that wasn't covered under the warranty. Was not charged for installing any of this.

I wonder if that's specific to second gens. I got new fuel and brake lines, leaf springs, body bolts and bushings on my 02 when they did the frame.

The list included brake lines (Brake Tube) and they are installing new leaf springs as part of the TSB. They also installed a new set of 5100 shocks that I supplied.

I've already done the brake lines, coilovers, leaf packs, added a rear diff breather, and probably other simple stuff that I cannot remember right now. So as long as they just R&R what they need to for the recall/warranty w/o charging me, I'll gladly give them some work.

I also wonder if I'll get the new leaf springs with my AAL already over OEM springs...this thread is giving me a lot more to think about
