Picking up a 2006 trd sport today. My old 99 had a nice double din touch screen and so I'm planning on installing one on this 2006. Any suggestions for radios? I found this pioneer refurbished for 160$. Seems like a decent deal.

Also planning on getting an extang full-tilt which I also have on my 99. Any other mods or simple installs you guys recommend and wish you had done right away?

This may not be of much use, but I love the fact that the factory touchscreen unit in my 2014 Tacoma TRD OR has a volume knob. IT may sound silly, but in my previous car which was a 2014 Honda Civic, the touch screen only had touch-sensitive volume controls. While I'm driving and paying attention, that simply doesn't work for me. I can't "see" the volume area nor can I "feel" the button to know what I'm doing. Being able to reach over and feel a volume button is a wonderful thing when you're trying to control the volume while paying attention to what you're doing.

I know, there are volume controls on the steering wheel... but I don't feel they are properly placed for one thing, and if you are turning in a tight angle they simply are not easy to access. But that physical volume button... it's priceless.

I completely agree! My existing radio has no knob and I wish it did, however I couldn't find any that fit this truck that were very affordable. I also was figuring that the steering wheel buttons will be very helpful. Thanks!

No prob. I haven't done much to my ride yet. But this is what I did do:

    • Jumper LED interior lights, license plate lights
    • Weathertec floor mats (they are awesome)
    • ARB recover hitch (just incase)
    • ARB 17k lb. recovery strap (just incase)
    • D-Rings (just incase)
    • Leer truck cap (I plan to camp in the back, Craigslist find, just painted at Maaco - total cost was $712 vs. $2,600 for a brand new cap I was considering)

I did order up the floor mats - it didn't come with anything and the carpet is still in great shape. I will also be keeping my eyes open for a topper. I can't believe how expensive these are!

I have that exact Pioneer unit in my '07 TRD Off-Road. I highly recommend it! The refurb from Amazon is not a bad deal, but you can get the latest version (AV290BT) from Crutchfield for about 30 bucks more. Crutchfield will also give you the option to purchase the installation kit with steering wheel controls. Plus, you get free shipping!

Thanks for the feedback - I did already order the refurb, but it's good to know it's a good one!
