I have searched this forum and I understand the largest tire on stock for 2011 for my 16" rims is 265/75/16. I currently have 245/75/16. What I was wondering is do I have to change rims to go to these larger tires. Does the wider tire require a wider rim or does the standard 16" rim fit all different widths.

x3 you'll be fine. I've made the jump in the past from stock 245-75-16 to 265-75-16. That's a nice size tire on these trucks. Keep in mind that your speedometer will be off (from what it is now) when you make that size jump. Taller tire = fewer revolutions per minute/mile, however you choose to look at it. So, your speedometer will read slower than the speed you're actually traveling.

BUT... As you'll read in other posts, Tacoma speedo's are typically running a little fast from the factory (i.e. Speedometer reads 67/68 mph, but you're actually doing 65 if you were to clock it). So many are reporting that after making the 245 to 265 jump, your speedometer will probably be right on.

Easy to get confused talking about this stuff. Can someone confirm for the OP that I've explained this correctly? If not, search around the forum a bit. Lots of threads on the topic.

You will be fine but usually it's not the width of the wheel that causes issues when going with larger tires but the backspacing. In reality, it's more preferred to go with a more narrow wheel with a wider tire to prevent popping a bead in low psi offroad applications.(8" wide wheel with a 33x12.5 tire vs. a 10" wide wheel)

My speedometer from the factory was 2 mph slow with 245/75/16's. Went up to 265/75/16's and not my speedometer is dead on. Of course now the odometer is off.
