Just make sure to apply your correct make, model, year and engine to the Amazon search app. I know that vsv fits the 4cyl 2.7L not sure about it fitting the 6cyl though.

Before ordering---- Check for vsv clicking continuously while engine is running. If it is your EVAP purge line may be clogged. Happens sometimes but not frequently.

Gotcha. I haven't heard clicking but I'll give it a listen with the hood popped. Thank you.

Check your PCV valve and the hose on both ends for leaking.

If I remember I had this code which I thought was strange and it was because of one or both of these were not working or leaking for me.

How do you check the file neck sealing?

Giving this thread a bump... I have been pushing off this fix for a couple years now - I'm terrible. Recently my error codes went from P0442 to P0446 and P0301 :(

Did the VCP replacement do the trick?

I haven't gotten around to replacing anything still. For some reason the code takes over 6 months to show again once I reset it, so I've just been living with it.

Was that the only code? A more advanced scanner should be able to show if it is a pending code or not. It could be an evap leak as well, if I recall from my last truck. The best way to test that is to take it somewhere which can test the system. Most of the time they'll recommend a new gas cap, but that may not necessarily be the issue. I know that they did that for my GMC and the evap light came back on within a week.

Yea...0446 was the only code that I got. I only went to auto zone and advanced auto to get the code checked. Never tried to dig much deeper because of the length of time it takes to show up again on the guages. It first popped up in jan 2020, I reset the ecu and never saw it ahain until July or Aug. The truck runs great so it hasn't pushed me to fix it yet.

Yeah it's mostly an emissions thing. It won't affect the drivability of it unless you don't like looking at the light

Pretty sure this is the same code I troubleshot couple years ago. Ended up finding my charcoal canister was cracked. Not cheap, but never saw the code again.

Well, I wish it was a code that would disappear for months. I live in AZ and all vehicles that must be registered have to pass emissions...and she won't pass with the CEL on.

I changed the gas cap and it didn't do the trick. Originally it was just P0442, but now I get P0446 as the active code and P0442 as a pending code. Charcoal canister and hoses look to be intact and in good condition, but I can't see the top of course. Nor would I see a "small" leak area. I guess it's time for a smoke test.

I had the same problem here in AZ as well, my 2001 looks the same as your 2004 under the hood, I replaced the vsv solenoid from one I bought on Ebay that was off of a Corolla, the bracket was different but it worked. I had to cycle through before the scan from emissions would green flag it, I can't remember the parameter but its something like 2/3 a tank of gas sitting for 6 hours.

    ABS sucks.
Anyone ever hear of a "temperature sensitive" P0446 code? My light is off if the temps are roughly below 50°F, and on when it's warmer. I've already changed the evap valve under the hood and the fuel cap. Looks like I'll be pulling the bed off at some point...

Part of the EVAP cycle is ambient air temperature differential dependent.

This code is the worst, I have the p0446 for a few years now, already replaced gas cap and then the filler neck. Now I am debating to try and sell the Tacoma and want to get it sorted out, so thanks for all your responses and I will investigate further. 2003 by the way.
