Mark, you got a part #, or description for those plugs? Assuming 3 holes on each side? I looked under there the other day, after I read your post, and mine doesn't have them either.

    @FRITZ235--

After seeing your posting, asking me for more information on the plugs, I went through my E-mails to Toyota customer support regarding this question. I thought 3 were replaced on each side, but after reviewing the correspondence, there were 5 on each side.

I took these pictures at the dealership in 2013, on a new 2013 Tacoma truck and this is what I have seen on all newer Tacoma trucks of the same generation. The pictures are of the front drivers side wheel well frame (5 plugs) and are the same on the passengers side (5 plugs) too, so there are 10 plugs total. The first picture shows a protective rubber mat with "4A" and below it are 2 plugs (blue marks on them). The second picture shows a protective rubber mat with "4F" and below it are 3 plugs on the other side of the wheel well. If you look at the first picture near the "4A", at the right there are 2 small holes above and below the plug, I still plan on blocking the holes, with either silicone caulking or maybe fill them with the wax from a toilet ring.

I attached a copy of the instructions for the limited service campaign on the Tacoma, which was copied from someone at the dealership and on page #19, it has a diagram showing the different plugs that go under the front wheel well frame, with part # and where they go on the frame that I was referencing.

The dealership did install 2 plugs under my truck, that were drain holes and after seeing water collect around them, I ended up removing them to be safe. If you look at page #18, even Toyota says, "install plugs to limit water and road spray from entering frame rail/cross members", so they know these plugs have a reason to be there and should be installed on all older Tacoma frames, just like they do on newer frames.

I just joined the club. 06 model went in for frame inspection on the 9th. Dealer here is telling me 3-6 months for frame to arrive. No word on how long they may have it. Lucky part not bad enough to drive.

    I think it's 15 plugs.
    Here's the part number.

Just joined the club on failed frame also. I was told 2 to 3 months for the new frame but I bet it takes longer. Gives me more time to buy a bunch of new suspension and have them put it on instead of me.

Have you installed all 15 plugs yet and were any of them put under the frame? Were you going to also try to cover the 2 smaller holes that don't have plugs under each wheel well? I was just curious where you found the part# for the plugs kit and how much you paid for the kit?

The dealership never installed the plugs under my wheel wells and told me they aren't supposed to be installed there either. I know these will make a difference, because having salty road spray going through the internal part of the frame is a big reason why frames are rusting out so quick and it makes me wonder why from 1995-2008, Toyota didn't change design/manufacture/material of the frames, I still don't understand why the frames have so many holes in the frame that dirt/salt enter so easily. I wished Toyota noted in the manual that applying an undercoating like Fluid film is recommended, because of the history of frame rot. I had a Nissan truck 4x4, that I didn't wash the frame half as much and lasted 18 years and I'm not sure the Tacoma will make it that long, but will keep applying Fluid film internally/externally and hope it extends the life of the frame.

I've posted in the other longer thread, but I'll add my experience here. My '08 frame failed back in December and I just received a call this morning that all the parts for the frame and leaf spring recall are in and I'm going in on Friday morning so it was about 3 months wait. Having them do new Bilstein 5100's and body bushings while they have it apart. I'll post again when it comes out of surgery.

There are a total of 24 plugs that come in the kit. Mine cost $65. Tech instructions show where they all go.

I just ordered the kit like 20 minutes ago. I got mine for $35, (they charge $12 for shipping, which kills it a little) here if anyone's interested:

They typically have the lowest prices.

WY should be covered. 2005-2008 Tacoma's. Call your local dealer, and ask about it.

Just checking in - it's been about 8 months since my frame failed, local dealer just called and said they have received all of the parts for the job, aside from the frame. They said the frame is on backorder and will be another 6-8 weeks.

Just curious what year your Tacoma is and why did they spray your frame when it failed? Toyota would never let you drive that truck with your frame that bad and should of been given a loaner, but it amazes me the dealership would let you drive it that way.

I didn't think letting a customer drive with a broken leaf spring was legal, as that is a safety recall and can rupture the gas tank or sever a brake line. I would report this dealership to Toyota Corp. for not following protocol and not being given a loaner car.

My neighbor has a 2005 and is getting a new $13,000 frame + and mine being 1 year older, I wish I too was getting a new frame and not just an undercoating.

Holy crap man - are they going to fix it or what?

I just got mine back from the dealer today - dropped it off on Monday of Thanksgiving week, it was finished by the next Monday evening. Everything looks great, the ride is a bit stiffer but it's a lot smoother than it used to be. I'm really glad Toyota took care of this - now I'll probably keep the truck forever. It's only got 91k miles on it, should be plenty of life left with this new frame.
