Getting in the cab

How do you all get in the driver's seat? Just bought the 2017 Tacoma SR 4x4 access cab and I 've gotta say, I haven't had a more difficult vehicle to get into since I had a 2010 Miata, and at least that one had a convertible top. I'm 5’7” and weigh 200lbs. Admittedly I have middle age spread.
Every time I get in the truck my head scrapes the door opening. It's very awkward to get my butt into the seat and even having installed Westin step rails it's like climbing into the Mercury space capsule.
Tell me your secret.

 

I initially had trouble banging my knees all the time. Definitely a different vehicle then what I’ve been used to.

I figured out that I stretch that first leg way in under the brake pedal, and life is good. 2nd nature now. You’ll figure it out. Mine was a knee thing. 6’ 185. Not sure if it’s the low seats or what, but definitely a learning curve for some of us.

 

Make sure the steering wheel is tilted all the way up (which isn't much) and telescoped all the way out (which isn't much). That puts the most space between wheel and seat.

 

Clazzio leather seat covers, me naked and smeared with lotion. I keep the lotion in the basket. It puts it on its skin, or else it gets the hose again.

 

You must be 8 feet tall.

Don't forget to PUT THE LOTION IN THE BASKET!! It slides around under the seat otherwise.

 

Step rails just make my pant legs dirty. My truck has a ~2” lift and it makes it perfect for a 6’ 2” old guy like me to hop in. I weigh in around 175/180, and would probably be considered fit in a modern sense, but really my fitness level is only average.

 

Your definitely in better shape than me then. What do you pull yourself up and in with? There is no driver side grab handle. My prior Ram had grab handles on both sides. I used that baby to pull my self in.

 

6' 2" 190 pounds No problems here...

 

It's called a "steering wheel" on Toyotas

 

6’2” 225lbs.....zero issues with ingress/egress. I have no “steps”, “nerf bars” or sliders getting in my way though.

 

Another option would be to tie a rope around the seat.

 

I am 5-10 and 230 lbs. and have no problems. How are you having a problem?

 

Hmm, how about several bungee cords? Wrap them around your rear, back up 5 feet...Profit! Tacoma forward assist.

 

I'm 5'8 and a whopping 140 pounds... No issues getting in my truck.

I bought Westin hdx steps and LOVE them... But don't use them for entry... They look great on the truck and my kids and dogs use them for entry... But i just step in. They also help prevent dings and block some dirt and rock from hitting the truck...

I do use the step getting out... But mostly to avoid getting my pant leg dirty. As they do collect mud quite easily. Even worse after removing the mud flaps

 

I had problems at first.. kinda hated it.. made me think that I made the wrong choice between the 4Runner and the Tacoma.. The runner was way more comfortable. But, I needed the box. Anyway. I got used to it. Now, I just get in. Definitely in placement of the head (tilted down) position is the key.

 

I have a long torso so my butt have to go in first. If not, I have to put my head down which I do not prefer. Step on sliders, step up, drop butt first.

 

I'm 5'10" and 250 pounds. Make sure to slide the driver's seat all the way back. Then you have more room to get in.
