As said above learn the Palomar knot. You will likely not need any other knot. I only use them. Also for catfish get some circle hooks and a good rod holder. The idea of a circle hook is the bend of the rod will set the hook on the fish all by itself. Kinda like bobber fishing only the rod is the bobber, if that makes sense. I run braid on all my catfish poles and fish trees sunken timber mostly. I use chicken liver alot, or at least I always take it with me and a dozen worms. I use the worms to catch panfish and either throw them on a circle hook live or cut them up for cutbait. Liver can be tricky to keep on a hook. Only go through the meat once and kind of lob it out vs all out casting trying to get it as far out as you can. Catfish love shallows as do panfish. Good luck tight lines!

cheese cloth works, just wrap the liver piece in the cheese cloth and put it on the hook...

Yeah it makes it tougher to get off. But I am lazy and fish a lot. I have perfected the liver bare on a hook. Once in a while it flings off. If I can't I just use cutbait or live bait.
