went for a little mudding a trails over the weekend...it was the dirtiest i have ever gotten my truck. it was great! almost got stuck in a mud pit, and had to pull my stupid buddy out who tried it in a nearly stock suburban. it was a good feeling to have a taco pull a giant chevy out of the mud.
3 of us went out. me, the chevy, and am f-150. believe it of not, i was designated the recovery vehicle, because the larger f-150 couldn't even budge the stuck suburban. +1 for tacomas

just some more pictures. just to show what a good job toyota does sealing things under the hood...i was way dirtier than the red ford, but look at the difference under the hood. after the mud, we hit some trails, and ended the day by playing around on about a 45 degree hill. ford had to try a couple times to get up, but i was able to stop half way up the hill, take a picture, and then climb the rest of the way up no problem.:mudding:

I see you got it painted...everywhere.

edit: I can vouch for the Ford that the 5.4L definitely is not a mud engine...I took the Expedition through the mud and almost got stuck once but it got the wheels spinning around 45 MPH...I know this because that's what the speedo said. lol

yeah, i got pretty stuck myself, i made it out on my own, but that was only after spinning my tires at 70 mph for a minute or two to clear out some of the mud...kinda dug myself out. i know it's not the safest thing...but it was an interesting experience spinning my tires at 70 mph in 5th gear, but only moving abotu 2 in per second....but the truck is alright, so that's all that matters

I was revving up and was like mmmmm....V8 then looked down and it said 2500-3000RPM going 35-45 and I was like  "OH SHIT!" My buddy thought we were gonna suddenly catch solid ground and start flying forward...but we were on mud...what is he? stupid? lol

for the record: I'm pretty darn sure my face looked like that when I saw it too. It was more or less my first time mudding. :mudding:(the cleanup the next morning was fun though, putty knife underneath the rig on the driveway)

i did it on purpose, so i wasn't surprised, but i was kinda nervous for the same reason your buddy was...didn't wann catch and shoot foreword, or wores yet, break something...i have the 5 speed auto, so i threw it into lo, worked it up to about 4000rpm, then to 2nd, then to 3rd then 4th and finally drive, and the speedo was reading in the 70s...i thought that was a good time to stop and rethink how i was gonna get out....i turned the tires from side to side doing abotu 35 for a couple minutes and eventually made it out

I hadn't thought of it since they would just keep spinning on top of what caught them and break something? On a Ford? Travesty! lol
I never thought of turning from side to side but I was never actually stuck stuck, it was still moving forward very slowly the whole time. In the end it did really friggin' good for a 2WD 3.5 ton 5.4L monster. I was very pleased with her.

the turning from side to side realy only helps if you have 4 wheel drive, that way the fronts can search for some bite.....as for the for we were with, while it may have been one of the worst recovery vehicles i've seen...when he was just romping around through the mud and along the trails, it preformed great...i'm not a ford person myself, but i have to admit i was impressed
