Hey all, still pretty new here.. just been lurking and reading as much as I can. I didn't happen to see anything regarding this in my searching, so forgive me if I somehow over looked it.

We just bought a new 2019 Tacoma SR5 without any package upgrades, and I've come to the realization that reaching into my pocket for my truck keys is kind of a pain in the butt. Wife's car has push to start, and I've gotten real used to it unfortunately. Kind of sad I know lol.. but I have arthritis in my hands so the extra effort is actually pretty noticeable.

I didn't think it would be a big deal, so I didn't bother looking into as an option on the truck. Not even sure its an option on SR5's?

Anyhow, my question is, is it possible to get it added relatively easily, or would it require a complete rewiring overhaul? Thanks!

Likely easiest and most cost effective to trade it for a TRD or limited model which has it

I think adding the OEM system would be ridiculously expensive, if that's even possible. Not sure whats available aftermarket either.

If it is really important to you, what he said above.

Agreed, I think it would be more complex than one may think.
Sorry you just ran in to this, I'd think it'd be best, just to get used to digging for the keys, or get a belt clip.

You can check this one out. I looked at it a little bit as I was thinking of putting it on my old Dakota. Then I just decided to trade the Dakota in for a Tacoma.

Yeah, don't think it's an easy thing to do. Trading in for a TRD or Limited if you can do that would be a better way to do what you want. Although @daddy_o recommendation looks like a possible option.

From what I've heard it requires replacing all or a significant amount of the wiring harness, so extremely expensive. As others said, if it is that important to you, trade it in and take the loss.

At least with an actual key, it's more difficult to steal the truck and easier to remember the key, some people forget and leave the key fob in the truck.

If you try and lock the truck it will beep if the keys are inside. Also there is a indicator on the LED screen once the doors are closed letting you know the keys are detected inside

No, not an option. You need to go TRD or Limited.

FYI, Toyota does have a disclaimer that Smart Key may interfere with pacemakers.

For the record, I couldn’t wait to get rid of my last truck with a smart key. There’s something about turning a key to start a truck...

Why not just go with a remote start and not even have to be in the truck to turn it on?

Remote start will still need the key regardless once the driver is seated for OP model. Besides, OP did mention it was a pain in the butt reaching in the pockets for keys so it won't be as convenient going this route.

Go with TRD OR unless you are only planning on just adding that and nothing else.

Damn, I was afraid of that. advancedkeys looks interesting though.
hmm.. maybe (if budget allows) wait for the 2020's.. the extra features might make it even more worth the upgrade.. just means I'd probably get much less for the trade though =(
I dunno.. a lot to think about

I appreciate all the replies, thanks for the help and advice!
