Getting Rear end TSB done..Question about Billstein 5100's

    I know this has been beat to death on this forum some where. I have been looking and can't seem to find the answers for my particular set up.

    I am getting the rear end TSB done to my truck in a few weeks. Was thinking of going ahead with some adjustable Billstein 5100's for the front to level the truck out. Then take advantage of the free alignment after the TSB is complete.

    My question is:

    Should I only get the front end Adjustable 5100's ? or go with all 4. I have a stock(at the moment) 2010 2wd DC TRD Sport. I know the TRD models already have Billstein shocks. I assume the ones that come with the TRD package aren't adjustable.

    What setting on the adjustable 5100s will level the front with the back after the TSB is done?

    Should i get all four?

    Or should I only get the 2 fronts done?

    Will it hurt anything to not get all four?

    Should i stick with the factory springs in the front or get some new ones? Advantages/disadvantages of the new/old springs?

    Sorry for all the questions....Thanks for any and all input/ info.

    I've had the exact same thought as far as the alignment goes. But some have said they only align the rear. :confused: Also I think the 1.75 setting should be good but my understanding is it will be nose high with loads. I'm trying to decide the same thing though. Of course I have got to get the tsb done or approved first.

    get all four

    set the fronts to .85...this will provide the stance your truck had from the fctory pre TSB.

    the TSB raises the rear about an inch after setteling in

    the 5100's @ .85 raises the front about an inch.

    a little rake will be present w/ an unloaded bed or w/o trailer tonge weight. like the factory rake.

    it won't hurt to just have the fronts to make up for the tsb leafs. but the rears are inexpensive and can be installed in an hour w/o even removing the rear tires.

    I have the rear TSB and did all four 5100's and couldn't be happier. I'm not a serious off roader so for me I wanted to increase the height slightly, level it out and not sacrifice any road feel and off road ability. I feel like I accomplished this and sure I could have done better and spent more but for what I spent I'm quite happy with my results.

    For the record I have my fronts set to 1.75" and it's perfect visually even though the front is slightly lower than the rear if you measure them out.

    Thanks fellas, so what it sounds like is having the front set at 1.75 will pretty much level it and .85 will provide the same rake that the factory truck had but just a bit higher.

    Ostrichsak...did you get new springs for the front? or did you stay with the factory springs??

    i'm kind of going for the same set up as you man. What about when you have rear loaded up? do you notice that the front end sits a little higher??

    I don't do a lot of offroading either, i just like the look of the off road tires and on a slightly higher than stock truck. I'm not really trying to go climb a mountain or anything with my 2wd. Just want it to look cool.

    Stock springs. It sits lower when loaded but so did the stock setup. So does every truck. I still don't get why people would bother setting their truck up for how it 'looks' loaded unless it's loaded 24/7. Who cares? I pull a trailer and haul heavy stuff a lot but who cares? It's a truck. They squat when you use them like trucks regardless of if you set your front struts at 1.75" or 0.85". That 0.9" won't make a lick of difference unless you 'haul' tens of pounds around. I want my truck to look good as possible when not in 'work mode' and don't want to sacrifice this for a slightly better look when I'm hauling stuff.

    That's my take.

    Is yours a sport or off road? And you're saying it still rides about the same? I don't want to sacrifice the ride and have read mixed opinions about this. Of course I know the rear will be stiffer. (tsb or aal) And the sport and off road have different coils right?

    Off Road. It feels ever so slightly stiffer but I prefer the way it feels. More truck-like now and seems to handle better.

    So do you know the difference in the sport coils? My wife already complains about how rough the truck rides, if I make it worse......................:crapstorm:. :D

    But anyway, I thought I've read that the sport coils are actually stiffer? If that is the case then maybe I wouldn't feel any change? I know there is a thread on here where the op has a SR5 with Billies and hates how much rougher it rides. I'm just trying to get an idea of what to expect if I get the 5100's. Starting to think maybe I need to stay with the 3 leaf and level at .85.

    Offroad coils are progressive, sport coils are linear. So the offroad coils will ride stiffer when preloaded.

    So will I get a smoother ride by leaving the factory springs on with the 5100s or putting new springs on?

    If I should get new ones which ones should I get?

    Keep in mind that I only want to raise the front end enough to level it with the rear after the tsb is done. By doing that I shouldn't have to put new uca's on correct?
