Based on what chevy just did with closing 5 plants in the US and eliminating 14,000 jobs, I will NEVER purchase another one of their products. This is a piss poor way to say thanks for the $13.4 BILLION dollar bail-out that was taken from our tax dollars. I too could feel the taco coming up short when doing work. I kept my 2015 and added a tundra to the fleet last summer. All trucks burn gas. If you add up all the repair bills from your ford then the fuel tab for the tundra is easily covered.

Ecoboost or diesel is the only way to get better MPG, the Chevy V8 is better too. But when you lift and go to bigger tires they all eat gas..
I think most lifted V8 get around 10-11 mpg...
I think Tundras still get 12-13 lifted..
But if you're sticking to 33" tires most will get the same or better MPG than the Tacoma...
And the domestics have tuneable ECUs.. The aftermarket has fixes for the stock ECUs, with Toyota we are stuck with the stock ecu, OVT does have flashes for the 3.5..

I don't understand why these trucks eat so much gas. I have tried everything.
Even going down to the 3.5 only nets the same or slightly better mpg. Though grandma driving with the 3.5 will net better mpg..

Every time I look at bigger trucks, they are just too big to for trails and daily driving.

I kinda misspoke earlier, I'm only planing on a 2 inch level on the front and hybrid AT/MT tires with 285's. From experience, it'll still get better gas mileage than the Tacoma does. I get into mud a lot, but I don't ever do trails. Part of the upgrade to a full size was because I do haul stuff frequently that in part causes my gas mileage to drop off. Larger truck, bigger engine, same stuff the truck works less and uses less gas.

Think the terrible Tacoma gas mileage has to do with the fuel management or something maybe.

Or the way they screwed me and many other Colorado owners on the faulty head issues. Oddly a moron like me can find the official GM document online in less than 5 minutes but a bunch of GM employees know nothing about it huh..

Not to mention the ignition issues. I don't think they've got those all fixed yet.

Slightly off from OP, but what is everyones opinion of the new titan? Im looking at a 2 door 2WD work package. (Has the V8). They come with a 100000 mile warranty... R they reliable and fairly fast for a truck?

There is a big difference between the 2011-2012 Ram CTD and the 2013 on.

I would not recommending a diesel from a Ford after the 7.3. We have had nothing but issues with out 6.7 TD scorpions on our crew trucks.

Any Duramax or Cummins produced after 2007 will be saddled with emissions crap that increase service intervals. decrease power and are often the weak point of the truck.

Bottom line, if you do not need a diesel, do not buy a diesel. I would not own one if I did not need one.

People who have not owned one have no concept of the actual costs and the amount of maintenance required to keep a modern one up and running.

I really want a OBS 7.3, but not as a DD. I'm familiar with diesel trucks though.

Pretty much everyone I know who has a diesel, also has a backup vehicle.

....and if you live in a state where you need to get smog inspections every two years, then you get to spend hours under the truck reinstalling it, driving until the monitors reset, testing it then taking it off again. This is a giant pain when dealing with DEF systems and the EGR.

If you really want a diesel, buy a 2004 to 2007 5.9 cummins or a 2006 LBZ, but be prepared to deal with the rest of the truck aging with less grace than the motor.

Fair point. In GA the counties that do emmisions testing don't do HD trucks

Not as bad as everyone makes it out to be. You won't get better mileage in any other full sized truck. In the real world, my Tundra gets just as good (bad) mileage as the rest of the full size lineup. I go on plenty of rock crawling trips towing, and my Tundra never beats, but also never falls behind anyone else.

Coming back from Moab, UT.. somewhere in Colorado. Getting 10-15MPG average climbing Vail pass.

    I've experienced the opposite.

Our worktruck was a 2018 Sierra 5.3 4x4 and I averaged 17 city and 23 highway. Pretty much every other fullsize I've driven has gotten 14+

The larger eco-boost would definitely hit your requirements on better mpg and they are quick.

I had a loaner raptor with 37’s and a lift and it was giving me better mpg than my Tacoma.
