Hey people. I’m going to be pulling the trigger and trading in my 19 Sierra for a 20 Tacoma sport dbl cab long bed. It’s going to get a 3/2 ready lift level, trd rims with ko2 tires and leer 100 xr cap. Is the lift a younger person’s game? I’m in my mid 50 ties and really like the looks of it. Don’t do off-roading but up here in Manitoba we do get a lot of snow. Just wondering as one gets older the difficulty getting in and out.

You’re only as old as you feel. I say rock the lift and live young forever.

3rd gen Tacomas don't come with a grab handle to help get in the vehicle.

Alternatives are to consider a 2nd gen Tacoma, or aftermarket grab handle for the 3rd gen Tacoma:

Before doing the lift, just put the truck on jackstands at the ht you expect the result to be. Then get in and out a few times and see how it feels.

If needed you could add sliders that work as steps. Or you could save a pile 'o bucks and stay stock.

All up to you, your functional use of the truck or your lust for the 'look'.

Age has nothing to do with it as a number, only your agility matters.

Your money, do what you want. Who cares what others think. I’m only 32 and I’ve already gotten away from the “lifted” scene. Frankly, I’m a believer that it just causes problems in the long run. I want a truck that will run dependably for hundreds of thousands of miles. In my eyes, a lift and large tires hinders that.

I figure that for me, a lift would be for looks only. If I start getting into situations where I need a taller truck, then I’ll consider lifting it. For now my truck is able to go everywhere I need it to go.

I was at Menards once and a gentleman in your age bracket came up to me drooling over my truck. I have a cap and lift with 4runner pro wheels and Wildpeaks. He asked me if it was stock, so I told him basically what I did to it to get it as he saw it. He even started taking pics of it.

At no point did I think that this old guy is too old for my truck. I thought it was pretty neat. After the feeling I was gonna be robbed went away of course.

I'm in my 40's so if someone thought I was being childish about my truck, i'd ignore them anyways. Your truck, your money. Do what you like.

    So no.

I do have predator steps for my short Asian wife and 7 year old as well.

Not so much age as height and physical shape, I am in my 60's, but in good shape, no issues, but my wife is quite short and even with the predator steps (or maybe because of them) cusses me getting in and out.

Or it could have nothing to do with the truck at all. :D

Maybe, but she does come out with me wheeling out in the Hill Country, even pees in the bush! She's come a long way from our first time off the pavement, lol!

I am with you ! Mid-50s. Had a lift on my 2005 and loved it. Traded that this year for a 2020 OR. Probably won't put a lift on the new truck -- not because of age but because I don't need it as much as I thought I would. We go off road in Northern Quebec but can easily manage without the lift and the OR suspension seems to be just fine. Will try it out this Fall !

If you get a lift maybe put some side steps on it. I ended up getting the large Ionic 5 inch pro series steps because I wanted something larger and beefier than than the standard OEM predator steps (I found those uncomfortable on my friend's truck and it felt like the steps were in the wrong place).

In short, if you want a lift -- go for it. You will be fine. The steps will help!

One thing to keep in mind, as you know from your previous truck, you will want to put some weight in the back for better traction in the snow.

Look forward to seeing your new truck !

At 67 I installed 32" tires and sometimes find it difficult to enter/exit on uneven terrain. Although I like the looks of a lifted truck with 32-35" tires, I would find it unnecessary and impractical. The places I go to hunt, fish, and off-road is handled very well with this stock truck and 32" tires.
