The Explorer still has a rear window though doesn't it? A quick search didn't show me any with a solid rear door. I could be wrong.

Got in inquiry out as well regarding over cab height and if there are options.

Ideally have only an inch or two under my lumber rack.

Meh. I don't get it, but I'm boring.

What's the current lead time on their wedge camper right now? I wanted to order one, but never have because the lead times were so absurd so it hurts my butt a bit to see a new product coming out from them.

They've drastically reduced lead times. I believe it says on their site, if you order now, you'll receive it in November. Which is pretty damn good

GFC CS' response to my questions:

"1. The topper lines up flush with the top of the [2nd gen] cab.
    2. [The topper's ceiling] will be about 1/2" below cab height.
    3. [The translucent honeycomb roof is] super tough, and stick on solar panels work great up there.
    4. You can lock the back panel from the inside, so the move is to lock the sides from the outside then enter through the back and lock that panel."

Going to be a tough decision to make between my various options...

I meant no side windows. Front and rear should still be there

Canceled my rsi EVOa. Luckily this came out in time. I’ve been waiting for a topper for a couple years. Didn’t want fiberglass. Set on RLD but acquiring is like searching for hens teeth. Settled on EVOa and canceled. Couple days GFC topper was released and I ordered one. For the last three years we’ve had a Leitner rack and a Alucab tent. Great setup for still being able to use the truck as a “truck.” Albeit still with Tacomas poor payload/tow capacities. What’s pushing the switch is the dust/debris of anything stored in the bed when off road and no trunk for daily things such as groceries, strollers, bla bla bla

List of pros apply to ME and MY use:
-top “halo” removable for tall items.
-beef bars can handle all my project runs for lumber and plys.
-honeycomb let’s light into bed area
-serviceable. Each nut/bolt/panel can be replaced.
-side/rear panels can all be removed and still have structure/beef bars stay on
    -static/dynamic load ratings are superior
    -lockable from interior
-exterior extrusions for accessories (tie downs, mounts, etc)
    -made in USA

yup, crazy. $4.5k seems like the new norm once you factor in shipping and more if you’re paying sales tax, but as long as people pay for it, it’ll continue. I’m guilty since I want one, but I’m very hesitant to drop the cash for it.

Well. In reality yes. And new

let’s face it many of us don’t use all these bells and whistles. And if their selling point is rear access. Then most cap manufacturers offer access side windows

But. Again I could never justify this for a truck cap. Hey that me.

I like this GFC because it looks pretty solid. Where I am any fiberglass cap is nearly tge same price once you add a rack and windoors.

What are the unused bells and whistles on this one? I like it because in my opinion it doesn't have any bells and whistles.

I'll agree that all caps, made of any material, are overpriced though.

I’ve been looking pretty hard for other options and not coming up with much.

    Care to provide some examples?

This is the only "cheap" cap I've ever come across.

Load is probably 800 dynamic (while driving) and apparently an 80's era F150 statically.

Try driving with that F150 on it and something will give I'm sure.

Well other than that poor 2nd gen's leaf springs, looks like those already gave.

I don't double you can find one less than 4k. The metal caps are always more than fibreglass caps for obvious reasons. You said you could find them for 2k.

While you're searching don't forget that a typical Leer has a static load limit of 150lbs. I think either them or ARE offer a cap with an internal frame but once that's optioned in you are up to the same price as an equivalent metal topper.

Again.... All caps are expensive for what they are but I don't think you'll be able to find a comparable cap for half the price.

Where I am it's pretty rare to find a topper on the used market of any sort. That may be an option for others but it's definitely not for me.
