Thanks Bob! Been dragging my feet on getting Sean’s rack going. My steel supplier is only open odd hours and I’m still working my day job during all this so stuff has slowed down for my here.

Are you having the mounting plates cut & bent, or do you have a CNC plasma and brake?

I make them myself with an angle grinder. I’m very particular about how the finished product looks so I usually spend a gain amount of time smoothing things out with a flap wheel. Same principle as my CMCs- You could leave the exposed welds and it’ll be function over form, but spending a little time smoothing things out will net you a much better looking final product without sacrificing structure and that’s worth it in my opinion.

Right on Cole! Thanks for the kind words. Thanks again for being so patient during all this. I take a lot of pride in my work and if it’s not 100% and you’re not completely satisfied, I do my best to get there even if it takes a little longer.

Thanks Jason! With my DIY dust collection filter, the shop is a lot more comfortable to work in too. I’d greatly recommend it.

Works great to cut down on the radiant heat from the ceiling. I did it a few summers ago when we were over 110* here as a temporary fix because it was faster to throw up than traditional insulation. I haven’t felt the need to replace it so it stayed. I used 1.5” thick boards for the ceiling and 1” for my metal garage door that faces west and gets all the afternoon sun (you can see that in the picture of the sliders above). Both have made a huge improvement in the shop. The previous owner had illegally converted the 2 car garage into a rental unit and when he left, he partially tore out some of the makeshift walls that divided the space into multiple rooms. It was a quick and messy job to show it’s a garage agin but I still had a lot of demo to do when I moved in. Currently about 1/3 of the garage still has partial drywall and shitty insulation. I hope to redo it properly soon but I also have to rewire the whole thing (since it was wired as living quarters and not a working shop) and I want to add a sub panel for the welder and compressor. As you can see, that’s a project that snowballs into a huge mess. When I redo it though, I’ll probably leave the ceiling insulated as is.

On the plus side, the new filter increases circulation in the shop without introducing a specific directional breeze that could disrupt welding gasses.

Rainy day quarantine project. Needed a place to hang the helmet in my shop that wouldn’t get in the way. The black pipe means I’ve been on Etsy too much but I like it.
