GHOST SHIP: Custom Chingaderas

So you'd suggest getting Dobinsons bushings if I'm going to get some Deavers?

 

They're expensive for a set of bushings and in my opinion that price doesn't translate to any difference you'd notice if you already have good bushings. I've used them before and liked that they hold grease, but I couldn't tell you if it made a difference in reducing squeaks or maintenance any since I haven't done any direct testing. I had this set on hand so it was easy for me to swap them in, but I wouldn't say you "have to" buy them if you have good bushings.

One thing I did notice is that the inner sleeve provided by Dobinsons has a few 1/8" holes drilled through it. I'd wager this is so you can use their greasable shackle bolts and the grease can actually get to the bushings instead of just coating the bolts. That info might be useful for people in the salt belt.

Another thought that crossed my mind is that the siped design of the bushings means there's less area of contact of the bushing to the spring eye. Makes me wonder of that adds additional stress to the polyurethane and will case them to wear out faster than a traditional bushing. Not sure- just thinking out loud on that one. I'll update if that's the case.

install today for @ahom . Added some DD pods to his rear bumper and wired in an Auxbeam controller under the hood.

 

Thinking about trying something new so if anyone is is interested in my rear bumper I think $1200 is a fair price. Install included of course. The above post shows what I went through to build it but it doesn’t show the cutouts I added for backup lights (DD SSC2, or BD S2 or similar). Let me know if anyone has any questions.

 

I feel like a trip to @GHOST SHIP is becoming a tradition every time I’m back home lol. Found out both sides of my bumper mounts were hanging on by hopes and dreams, so thankfully Sergio is available to help a brotha out! We’re gonna be adding a little reinforcement plate too (more pics to follow)

Yours finally gave out too? I’m swapping all my Icon stuff out for something a little more suited to my driving style.

What suspension do you plan to go with?

Im sticking with Icon, and actually just ordered my kit for my GX470

Not “normal”, but it’s happened enough times where a repair like this has been posted a few times before. There was even someone here making reinforcement plates that get welded on to the frame horns similar to what I did, but I can’t remember who it was.

edit: found out who it was. Thread got closed because the dude was ghosting customers with open orders.

 

I didn’t have a reinforcement with the steel bumper, so with the paper thin frame horns it was bound to happen. Usually they come with mount reinforcements that sandwich that whole area, but I didn’t get one since mine was acquired in a non-traditional new way lol (read: pelfrey warehouse close out after debacle)

 

The saddest part of this post, everyone knows what the Pelfrey debacle is.
