Thanks Dave! Fully mobile and the gash is healed shut, but the nerve damage remains. That’ll be a slow road. It’s so wierd to have half my hand be numb and hurt at the same time- all the time. In the mean time I’m ready to start taking work again so that’s good.

I haven’t tried yet. Holding a pick is wierd because the thumb is numb. I’m sure I can do it but definitely need to work on building up the fine motor skills a little. Haha. I haven’t even tried to play video games yet.

Just wanted to give GhostShip a shout-out! He installed my lift and guided me every step of the way. Was rubbing a little bit once I got the tires but he helped me through cutting and damn, my truck rides a lot better!

Got the fox performance elite and he connected me with his tire guy and now I’m running 275/70/R17!

ECGS bushing today. Probably the fastest I’ve installed one. Got it done in about 30 min.

Seriously weirded out by how fast that went down. I usually block out a couple hours for the job.

More bike shit. I know I’m cheap, but i also like to think of myself as resourceful.

Problem: The brake linkage on my scooter isn’t adjustable. There’s about three threads worth of adjustment at the master cylinder but not enough to put the pedal where it feels comfortable and I’m not pointing my toes down to hit the rear brake. The few aftermarket solutions out there are near $200 for something like this:

    E9A2A826-377F-4875-BA2D-ADBD22ECA98A.jpg

Beautiful for sure and probably worth the price from a manufacturing standpoint. But it seemed like such a basic concept that I figured there had to be a cheaper way to get it done. Looking around the internet didn’t turn up anything that was the right size or had the right adjustment that I needed. So let’s DIY something.

Found some rod ends at my local Ace for $15 each and searched through my scrap pile for something that could be used as the center. I found a 1/2” square piece of aluminum stock that was almost the right length but good enough to be my tester.

Used a sharpie as my layout fluid and found the center.

Drilled it out- only going 1/2 way before starting again from the opposite side. The tricky part here was squaring it up in my drill press with a very basic setup so that the hole didn’t start going crooked as I got deeper in the piece. I needed to drill through about 3” or material and have both sides meet in the middle.

    Sonofabitch, I nailed it.

    Tapped it by hand.

    Bob’s your uncle.

    And it works as intended!

This is just a test piece. I already bought a solid chunk of brass (for $8) to make the final price. It will be a bit longer for more thread engagement and I’ll be adding lock nuts to the rod ends. I’ll also be shaping it so it’s not just a random square chunk of metal. Got to give it some pizzazz.

Shit… imagine what I could do if I had more tools.

Now you just need a metal lathe to shape that aluminum piece. :D

I’m envious that you have the time to tinker & fix things like that! Super cool

I mean, if you're not buying at least 1 new tool per project then is it worth doing the project?

Here’s my poor man’s lathe. Throw a bolt in your work piece. Chuck the bolt in the drill press and have at it. These are clearly not low tolerance parts, but they’re good enough for me.

Also couldn’t resist stamping the brass for some product placement.
