It needed a quart she said so she put in half a quart just to be safe. Unlike most women she actually has some common sense when it comes to vehicle maintenance. That's what I get for replacing the factory cap thougg, it used to say 5w-30 right on it. What's done is done though and I never got mad one bit, I was just happy she even considered checking it! Yeah she's not going anywhere, lol

My wife won't even wash her SUV, let alone check any fluids. That's why her '84 Rustang engine seized up, no oil in that little shitbox 4 banger.

Is your truck still in the warranty period? If so, Toyota says 5W-30 conventional and change oil every 6 months or 5000 miles whichever comes first. If not and you are using Mobil 1 synthetic draining your oil at 5000 miles is a waste of good oil. Even with a cheap conventional oil and OEM filter 7500 miles is no problem at all. For the synthetic and OEM filter 10,000 miles is no problem.

    www.bobistheoilguy.com

Lots of guys on that site with V6 Tacomas with good info on the 1GR-FE V6 engines. Some of those guys are crazy about their oils and perform used oil analysis every oil change.

I remember seeing one guy who is also a member here who has an 06 maybe with 330,000 plus miles and he uses a Mobil M-209 filter (oversize) and the Mobil 1 synthetic and he does like 12,000 mile oil changes. His used oil analysis look like a new engine too.

I use M1 10/30 with the M1 filter in my Tacoma, LS430 and Rx300. All of them call for 5/30. I have 678K miles total on all 3 of them. I would not worry about using 1/2 a qt.
