I can’t imagine what innovation cues they would glean from such a situation.

They produced a durable, long lasting off road capable utility truck, as they always have, that refuses to be dethroned. And it does what it’s told. Everything else is window dressing. I’d love to be a fly on the wall for that lol-fest meeting.

“Yeah guys. Jeep installed a direct-to-Instagram camera feed, and the kids LOVE IT. It took a fraction of the percentage of our sales. What should we do about this?”

-all raise hands and vote “nothing, because we don’t give a fuck about stupid shit”

Oh I can think of a few things:
    • better towing capacity
    • better gas milage
    • better transmission
    • better engine
    • better electronics
    • better colors
    • better ride
    • better load capacity
    • better handling
    • rear disk brakes
    • Better tail gate
    • bed with lockable storage
    • not so ugly stock rims
    • body that isn't just a warmed over 2nd gen
    • ability to run bigger tires without modifications
    • bed that can easily load 4' wide panels
    • hybrid option
    • all electric option
I'm sure that list will hurt feelings, but as good as the Tacoma is, it isn't perfect. Without competition there will be no improvement of the breed and that's why I cheer for Tacoma's competitors. And I really do like the looks of the Gladiator. Driving with the top and doors off on a nice spring day cannot be beat.

    Add to the list above...

    - ability to add true off road armor (bumpers) without having to cut off body panels.

    Cheers

My very good friend ordered a Gladiator Rubicon a few weeks ago. Being built now. I'll crawl all over it when it's delivered. I'm interested to see all the features for myself.

He did own an AEV Brute double cab for 5 years (awesome vehicle) and just traded that in with 178,000 miles on it.

    Cheers

You bought the wrong vehicle bruh. I don’t know what you need, maybe an electric Mercedes truggy. But the Tacoma is not for you.

Oh you mean bolt on basic stuff. Instead of stuff that requires knowledge or an actual fabricator.

Apologies on Toyota’s behalf because they didn’t think through the whole “aftermarket armor” thing.

You're correct because all the Jeep aftermarket is just basic stuff, no fabrication work at all. Just like some of the Tacoma vendors on here that also build stuff for jeeps. They're not fabricators... and I accept your apology.

    Cheers

The Jeep kinda makes the Tacoma look like it should stay on paved roads

Stock to stock comparisons, off road Taco, Rubi Gladiator, tough to call, but Jeeps always out do Tacomas, stock to stock. I think the Jeep takes the Toyota off road.

Did they get anything right? I mean, damn you know they aren't building your ideal vehicle and that's why aftermarket parts exist so you can kinda make it what you want.? Also this might be this first complaint I've seen about the Taco's body appearance. I personally think it's like Jessica Alba levels of good looking.

Basically you get the functional benefits of a pickup truck with all the drawbacks of a Jeep.

Gladiator is useless as a Jeep...they shoulda made it single cab with truck bed. This completely defeats the purpose of what a Jeep is...short wheelbase, go anywhere anytime vehicle.

You can get those to they also have a v8 Hemi option. I think with all the options they come in at around 100k
